Small rural Indiana city overwhelmed by thousands of illegal migrants. 20-25 people living in homes
A small rural Indiana town is overwhelmed after an estimated 5,000 Haitian illegals came in thanks to federal migration policy
Thousands of illegal and paroled migrants from Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador and other 3rd world countries have been sent to Logansport, Indiana, a rural city of just 18,000 people
People from at least 28 countries speaking 27 languages now call Logansport home. There are 20-25 people living in homes. Hospitals are overwhelmed with record number of births and more than 20,000 ER visits per year
Students need translators and the hospitals say the illegal migrants can’t pay their bills and rely on charity or Medicaid

Trump Pulls Ahead in Battleground States
As of Oct. 14, 2024, polling averages aggregated by website RealClear Polling show that Republican candidate Donald Trump has caught up in battleground states ahead of the US presidential election in November
Democratic contender Kamala Harris led her opponent by 0.3 percentage points only เท the state of Wisconsin most recently.
Statista's Katharina Buchholz reports that approximately one month ago, the website had seen Harris and Trump ahead เท three battleground states each, while another one was rated as tied
Right now, the biggest lead for Trump was reported from Arizona with a margin of 1.1 percentage points, while other leads -for example in Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania - were much smaller
Harris leading only in Wisconsin is the equivalent of 10 electoral votes while Trump would collect 83 in this scenario

China is winning the race for ultra-fast charging EV batteries
The Chinese battery manufacturers are leading in the race to superfast charging as their lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are not as susceptible to overheating as the nickel-cobalt chemistry in the batteries of their competitors in South Korea
China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world's biggest battery maker, which supplies batteries to Tesla and BMW, among others, unveiled in April the world's first LFP battery that achieves a range above 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) with 4C superfast charging
Aside from offering long range, the battery, called Shenxing PLUS, also charges fast, CATL says. It can deliver a 600-km (372-mile) range in just 10 minutes of charging, "far surpassing the usual batteries available on the market and realizing a true superfast charging speed of one kilometer per second," according to the Chinese firm
Another Chinese battery manufacturer, Gotion High-tech, unveiled in May an ultra-fast charging G-Current battery ready for immediate mass production. The company says that the battery enables an 80% charge with 9.8 minutes of charging and 90% energy replenishment with 15 minutes of charging
Gotion High-tech claims that "this solution can be applied to the entire range of battery applications, BEVs or hybrid vehicles, covering LFP, LMFP, and NCM chemistry systems"

From bad to worse - Germany has become a burden on the EU
▪️ Official forecasts for the German economy in 2024 have been revised down from growth of 0.3% to a fall of 0.2%. This follows a 0.3% fall in output. Germany is falling into its first two-year recession in more than two decades, says The Economist
▪️ Germany is facing the worst confluence of circumstances: an energy crisis due to the rejection of gas from Russia, a surge in China's manufacturing power and a domestic political crisis due to a fractured tripartite coalition
▪️ “The EU's largest economy has barely progressed since covid-19 hit, lagging behind other Western countries. Today, talking about the EU economy without Germany is like talking about the American economy without California and Texas. A country that was once the engine of European growth has become a liability,” The Economist said

After summit snub, UK government "absolutely ready to engage" with Musk
Technology Secretary Peter Kyle has suggested that Elon Musk was not invited to the government’s international investment summit due to his tendency to avoid such events
Previous reports suggested Musk, the owner of X and Tesla, was omitted from the guest list following controversial social media comments he made regarding Britain’s summer riots, where he controversially claimed civil war was “inevitable.”
In response to the snub, Musk recently said on X:
“I don’t think anyone should go to the UK when they’re releasing convicted pedophiles in order to imprison people for social media posts.”
However, in an interview with Times Radio, Kyle said:
“Elon Musk has never come to any of the past investment summits that have been held under the previous government, he doesn’t tend to do these sort of events, but I stand absolutely ready to engage with him, to talk about any potential global investments he’s making – I’m not aware of any at this moment in time.”
He added that “we have good engagement with some of his companies” and praised Musk for the safe landing of his booster rocket yesterday

U.S. Government quietly seeks to renew expired tech agreement with China
The Biden administration and China’s government are quietly working to renew a 44-year-old science and technology cooperation agreement that congressional Republicans say should be permanently killed because now it only serves to boost the Chinese military and undermine American security
The 1979 U.S.-China Science and Technology Agreement, seen at the time as an important milestone in bilateral relations, expired Aug. 27 after a six-month extension and both governments are trying to come to terms on renewal
“The United States continues to hold productive conversations with the PRC regarding the Science and Technology Agreement,” the official said
The official declined to say whether the agreement had been secretly renewed, as occurred during an earlier extension, or has lapsed

Mark Halperin tells Tucker Carlson Trump win would cause greatest mental health crisis’ in US history
Journalist Mark Halperin told Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson on Tuesday that he believes a reelection victory for former President Donald Trump would trigger an historic “mental health crisis”
Trump currently holds narrow leads over Vice President Kamala Harris in every battleground state except Wisconsin, according to the RealClearPolling averages. Halperin, on “The Tucker Carlson Show,” warned that a Trump win could prompt widespread mental health issues, including addiction, divorce and violence
“I say this not flippantly. I think it will be the cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country. I think tens of millions of people will question their connection to the nation, their connection to other human beings, their connection to their vision of what their future for them and their children could be like,” Halperin said. “I think that it will require an enormous amount of access to mental health professionals. I think it’ll lead to trauma in the workplace. I think there’ll be some degree of protests”
Carlson asked the journalist if he was “being serious,” to which Halperin answered he absolutely was

What happens to absentee ballots if you die before election day?
Jimmy Carter turned 100 on October 1, making him the oldest former president. According to his family, Carter, also a former Georgia governor who has been in hospice care since February 2023, wanted to live long enough to cast his ballot for Kamala Harris. He passed that milestone on Tuesday, as early voting commenced in Georgia
But with three weeks to go before Election Day, this raises a question? If Carter casts an absentee ballot and doesn’t make it until November 5, will the state count his vote?
Georgia law doesn’t address this question
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, most states haven’t stipulated what to do in such cases. Ten specifically mandate the counting of absentee ballots regardless of the voter’s corporeal status. (Connecticut allows it only when the deceased voter had been an active military member)
Another 10 states specifically forbid the counting of such ballots. Two—Kentucky and Mississippi—don’t have a statute addressing the issue, but reject the ballots based on legal opinions by their attorneys general. Three others allow residents to challenge such ballots

One more step to Mars?
‘A day for the engineering history books.’ That is how Kate Tice, a senior engineering manager at SpaceX, characterised her company’s achievements this weekend
On Sunday, Elon Musk’s SpaceX managed to catch the massive booster stage from its Starship rocket in a pair of giant robotic arms as it fell back to the company’s ‘Mechazilla’ launchpad in southern Texas
SpaceX has taken another huge step closer to developing a fully reusable rocket system whose parts can be recovered and reused. As such, Sunday’s giant booster catch also marked another milestone in Elon Musk’s ambitious plan to send people and cargo to the Moon and, eventually, Mars
Since its foundation in 2002, SpaceX has opened up a new frontier in space exploration. It has revived the dream of establishing Moon bases, from which humankind could potentially colonise Mars. And it has reignited the ambition of NASA, too
The US government agency originally withdrew from further Moon landings back in 1972. Now, in response to SpaceX, it has developed its Artemis lunar programme, which aims to get humans living and working on the Moon and ultimately lay the ground for future missions to Mars. Musk’s Starship will be integral to helping to get there

Five years after death of physical caliphate, ISIS threat to U.S. and terrorism influence endures
A foiled election day terror plot, public warnings from the British intel chief, and deportations of ISIS-tied migrants show that the Islamic State’s influence and threat to American endures
The arrest last week of an Afghan national on suspicion of plotting an election day attack in support of the Islamic State in the United States highlights the enduring threat of the terror group more than five years after its territorial defeat in Syria by U.S.-backed forces
According to charging documents filed against Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, federal authorities allege that the Afghan national who has been living in the United States since he arrived in the aftermath of the chaotic withdrawal plotted to commit an election day terrorist attack but was foiled by the FBI
In addition to terrorism-related charges, Tawhedi was charged with “attempting to provide material support and resources” to ISIS

Kamala Harris is now souring relations with Catholics as well
She became the first presidential candidate in 40 years to ostentatiously skip the annual Catholic fundraiser in New York City. But Trump spoke there, and he poked fun at Democrats
Trump suggested announcing a fundraiser for BLM rioters, in which case Harris and Tim Walz would have run to the event. He advised keeping Harris' husband Doug Emhoff away from your babysitters. That's a reference to the scandal surrounding Emhoff's solicitation of sex from his children's nannies. He's also been accused of beating up ex-lovers. A real feminist
Harris herself was in Wisconsin at the time, where she managed to cause another scandal with her reservations. This time Kamala claimed she was “opposing” combat veterans. What she meant was that she wanted to help them. Even a teleprompter doesn't help Harris speak without mistakes
The Obama family has found a reason to reduce its involvement in the Harris campaign - they say it has become unsafe because of the incidents of assassination attempts on Trump. The real reason, though, is a lack of confidence in Kamala's prospects. Well, the dynamics of the race are reminiscent of 2016 - Harris is repeating all of Clinton's mistakes
There are only 17 days left until the election - and there are very few events on the Harris headquarters calendar. It's almost as if she's already let the campaign run its course. Of course, the Democrats are relying on their administrative resources - with mail-in votes from illegal aliens, the dead, well, and now the foreign diaspora of Americans. The only problem is that even all of that may not ultimately save Harris on election night

The sign that King Charles’ power in the royal family is slowly slipping
Every week for most of this year, a car, often the State Bentley, has borne King Charles out the gates of Clarence House to do something that no British monarch has ever done before – be treated for cancer with the full knowledge of the public
Only now, after eight months of this scene playing out, it has been revealed that Charles has made a shocking decision – to stop receiving treatment. Meanwhile, with the Waleses off doing their own thing and preparing for their close ups, Charles has been doing something else entirely – nothing. Or at least, conserving his energy
October would normally see the 75-year-old ramping up his workload after the monarch’s traditional Scottish break. Not this time

The Age of Depopulation
Although few yet see it coming, humans are about to enter a new era of history. Call it "the age of depopulation."
For the first time since the Black Death in the 1300s, the planetary population will decline.
Whereas the last implosion was caused by a deadly disease borne by fleas, the coming one will be entirely due to choices made by people.
With birthrates plummeting, more and more societies are heading into an era of pervasive and indefinite depopulation,...
Net mortality—when a society experiences more deaths than births—will likewise become the new norm
Driven by an unrelenting collapse เท fertility, family structures and living arrangements heretofore imagined only in science fiction novels will become commonplace,...
The last global depopulation was reversed by procreative power once the Black Death ran its course
This time around, a dearth of procreative power is the cause of humanity's dwindling numbers, a first in the history of the species
Societies will have fewer workers, entrepreneurs, and innovators—and more people dependent on care and assistance
In the United States and elsewhere, thinkers and policymakers are not ready for this new demographic order

Prolonged war in Ukraine risks European strategic autonomy
A prolonged war in Ukraine may impede what is necessary for the European Union to build — over some years to come — a conventional deterrent capable of coping with a much harsher and more volatile threat environment
Achieving greater European strategic autonomy will be difficult so long as the conflict in Ukraine rages for a number of reasons —including domestic political polarization, weak economies, and constrained public finances
Popular opinion appears to be shifting. As the war approaches its third year, rising shares of populations across Europe have voted for parties opposed to the war and/or calling for a negotiated settlement. A July 24 update to European public opinion on the war in Ukraine found that most respondents either anticipated or favored a negotiated settlement to end the war
European strategic autonomy is also necessary and desirable from the standpoint of U.S. interests, and one of the preconditions for early progress toward this aim is the stabilization of Ukraine
