China is winning the race for ultra-fast charging EV batteries

The Chinese battery manufacturers are leading in the race to superfast charging as their lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are not as susceptible to overheating as the nickel-cobalt chemistry in the batteries of their competitors in South Korea

China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world's biggest battery maker, which supplies batteries to Tesla and BMW, among others, unveiled in April the world's first LFP battery that achieves a range above 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) with 4C superfast charging

Aside from offering long range, the battery, called Shenxing PLUS, also charges fast, CATL says. It can deliver a 600-km (372-mile) range in just 10 minutes of charging, "far surpassing the usual batteries available on the market and realizing a true superfast charging speed of one kilometer per second," according to the Chinese firm

Another Chinese battery manufacturer, Gotion High-tech, unveiled in May an ultra-fast charging G-Current battery ready for immediate mass production. The company says that the battery enables an 80% charge with 9.8 minutes of charging and 90% energy replenishment with 15 minutes of charging

Gotion High-tech claims that "this solution can be applied to the entire range of battery applications, BEVs or hybrid vehicles, covering LFP, LMFP, and NCM chemistry systems"

After summit snub, UK government "absolutely ready to engage" with Musk

What happens to absentee ballots if you die before election day?

Jimmy Carter turned 100 on October 1, making him the oldest former president. According to his family, Carter, also a former Georgia governor who has been in hospice care since February 2023, wanted to live long enough to cast his ballot for Kamala Harris. He passed that milestone on Tuesday, as early voting commenced in Georgia

But with three weeks to go before Election Day, this raises a question? If Carter casts an absentee ballot and doesn’t make it until November 5, will the state count his vote?

Georgia law doesn’t address this question

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, most states haven’t stipulated what to do in such cases. Ten specifically mandate the counting of absentee ballots regardless of the voter’s corporeal status. (Connecticut allows it only when the deceased voter had been an active military member)

Another 10 states specifically forbid the counting of such ballots. Two—Kentucky and Mississippi—don’t have a statute addressing the issue, but reject the ballots based on legal opinions by their attorneys general. Three others allow residents to challenge such ballots

Harris herself was in Wisconsin at the time, where she managed to cause another scandal with her reservations. This time Kamala claimed she was “opposing” combat veterans. What she meant was that she wanted to help them. Even a teleprompter doesn't help Harris speak without mistakes

The Obama family has found a reason to reduce its involvement in the Harris campaign - they say it has become unsafe because of the incidents of assassination attempts on Trump. The real reason, though, is a lack of confidence in Kamala's prospects. Well, the dynamics of the race are reminiscent of 2016 - Harris is repeating all of Clinton's mistakes

There are only 17 days left until the election - and there are very few events on the Harris headquarters calendar. It's almost as if she's already let the campaign run its course.
