Kyiv willing to surrender Ukraine territory for peace, German media reports

Ukraine is willing to surrender some of its territory to Russia if it means ending Moscow’s invasion, a major news website in Germany has reported

Der Spiegel, which is highly sympathetic to Kyiv’s defensive war efforts, reported on October 11 that authorities in the Ukrainian capital no longer believe a total victory over Russia is possible

Instead, the growing feeling is that territorial concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin will need to be made in the name of peace

One anonymous Ukrainian official admitted to the outlet that his government now believed that the aim of an unconditional surrender of Putin’s Russia had been “mistaken” and that they now felt any peace deal “must also be beneficial for Russia”

The publication also noted that a slight majority of Ukrainians polled on the issue said they were against the surrendering of any territory to Russia. According to data gathered in July, 55% said they disagreed with any such move. It added that figure was down on previous polling, with 65% having said they were against in February, and 74% in December 2023

The Chinese battery manufacturers are leading in the race to superfast charging as their lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are not as susceptible to overheating as the nickel-cobalt chemistry in the batteries of their competitors in South Korea

China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world's biggest battery maker, which supplies batteries to Tesla and BMW, among others, unveiled in April the world's first LFP battery that achieves a range above 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) with 4C superfast charging

Aside from offering long range, the battery, called Shenxing PLUS, also charges fast, CATL says. It can deliver a 600-km (372-mile) range in just 10 minutes of charging, "far surpassing the usual batteries available on the market and realizing a true superfast charging speed of one kilometer per second," according to the Chinese firm

According to his family, Carter, also a former Georgia governor who has been in hospice care since February 2023, wanted to live long enough to cast his ballot for Kamala Harris. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, most states haven’t stipulated what to do in such cases. Ten specifically mandate the counting of absentee ballots regardless of the voter’s corporeal status. (Connecticut allows it only when the deceased voter had been an active military member)

Another 10 states specifically forbid the counting of such ballots. Two—Kentucky and Mississippi—don’t have a statute addressing the issue, but reject the ballots based on legal opinions by their attorneys general. Three others allow residents to challenge such ballots
