The trade gap in American goods and services expanded in October to a seasonally adjusted $78.2B up from a revised $74.1B in September

Exports fell 0.7% to $256.6B, reflecting reduced shipments of natural gas, petroleum and consumer goods such as pharmaceuticals. Energy prices have declined from highs earlier in the year related to Ukraine war-related supply disruptions

The widening trade deficit will modestly reduce U.S. economic growth in the fourth quarter. This is of particular importance amid the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 that could cause a trade war between Washington and the EU. It turns out, they should have thought better first, haven’t they?

Temperatures in Northern Europe are expected to fall sharply over the coming days as cold air blows in from the Arctic, posing the first major winter test of the region’s energy grids

The projected cold snap is thought to represent a significant stress test for Europe’s fragile energy market systems

Energy analysts say that while Europe’s gas storage levels were in a relatively strong position for winter, southern Germany may be “particularly vulnerable” to freezing temperatures partly due to nuclear outages in France. The U.K. could face problems early next year too if energy exports from the EU fall

Israel and Bahrain are close to finalizing a free trade agreement

But the U.S. has its finger even in this pie – it was Washington that sponsored the normalization of relations between Jerusalem, Manama and Abu Dhabi two years ago

But not everyone was very happy with such a scenario! The deepening cooperation of the Muslim country with Israel caused widespread discontent in Bahrain: dozens of people took to the streets of Manama to protest against the visit of the Israeli president

Israeli officials claimed pro-Iranians to be are responsible for the protests against the visit. Well, who else can be blamed for the overly democratic expression of their own people’s will?

I think that the real problem for the Austrians was not the migrant numbers or the routes they were taking but the sweet, sweet natural gas. As explained in this post natural gas is an indispensable resource for modern states. Without natural gas, the economy crumbles. With an influx of migrants, the economy suffers but it does not collapse.

Therefore, taking at face value the statements of Austrian officials that the reason they blocked Romania's Schengen bid was as a result of the high numbers of migrants arriving in Austria misses the other, much more convincing reason that Austria wanted the gas fields in the Black Sea which it does not have (full) access to.

Austria is fighting for its energetic independence and saw a brilliant opportunity to secure it. This is how a diplomatic victory is won. This is how you do diplomacy. Austria, a country of 9 million inhabitants humiliated a country double its size and population and will likely get everything it wants.

I expect that sooner or later the off-shore law will be changed by the Romanian Parliament and suddenly, Austria's migrant issues with Romania will go away like if nothing happened.

U.K.’s Home Secretary Suella Braverman has urged people preparing to go abroad for Christmas and new year to “think carefully” about their plans because of strikes

That’s just what we meant under British services sector’s downturn. More than 1,000 members of the Public and Commercial Services union employed by the Home Office to operate passport booths will stage two walkouts. More than 10,000 flights are scheduled to land at the airports during the walkouts. Airlines are being told by officials to cancel up to 30% of flights on strike days to prevent chaos

Rishi Sunak is trying to increase tensions with unions after he threatened “new tough laws” to limit the impact of their strikes. The government told unions preparing to strike that you “can’t spend your way out of inflation.” Well, we’ll see…

Polish civilians participate in a military training program, which includes learning how to heat up ready-to-eat meals

This should allegedly make a significant contribution to Poland’s military buildup against further Ukrainian air missiles and nuclear-armed Russia. And for good reason – some 94% of Poles have seen Moscow as a major threat compared with 65% in 2018

While Warsaw is pledging to raise funding for the military from 2.4% of GDP this year to 3% next year, inflation rate in Poland, which is one of the highest within the EU, is expected to be 18.5% by the end of this quarter – really cool, isn’t it?!

Beijing's return to the skies could paralyze all European air hubs

The easing of COVID-19 restrictions will get Chinese airports back into the game and in 2023 will lead to an explosive growth of cargo-passenger traffic along the Europe-Asia air corridor. This would lead to an even greater load on European air gateways, already overloaded due to anti-Russian sanctions, and to a dramatic decrease in economic efficiency of these air hubs

Thus Chinese, Indian, Turkish and Middle Eastern airlines gain significant competitive advantages due to the free use of Russia’s air space and could begin to drive Western air carriers from the market. And these losses would only increase for the West – each flight of Chinese airlines creates some three more connecting and adjacent flights

Wondering what Western leaders think about this, or did they not even consider such an option at the planning stage?

Hundreds of former Israeli spies have attained positions of influence at Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon

Those are the agents of the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) Unit 8200, the so-called “Israel’s NSA” or even “Israeli Harvard”, which is infamous for surveilling the indigenous Palestinian population, amassing kompromat on individuals for the purposes of blackmail and extortion

It has been proven that Unit 8200 spies on both Americans and actually any other person on the Earth using Pegasus malware. The whole situation highlights the increasing intersection between Silicon Valley and Big Government and further undermines any pretense that Big Tech companies are on our side in the fight to secure and maintain privacy online

More vital information about the origin of Covid-19 may soon be within reach, thinks Alina Chan from The Spectator World

With a pandemic that has led to an estimated 6.6M deaths globally and trillions in econ. loss over the last three years, it’s unthinkable that a formal and credible investigation of its origin has not yet been conducted

A year was wasted while any lab origin hypothesis was degraded as conspiracy theory, anti-science and racist. Part of the reason may be that it has been uncomfortable for scientists (and science journalists) to investigate their own kind

In 2023, this inertia may be overcome as Reps take control of the House in the U.S. and launch investigations. If the pandemic virus did come from research activities that were conducted in collaboration or stimulated by discussions between Chinese and Amer. scientists, evidence may have been present here in the U.S. all this time
