The double talk of U.S. officials who publicly vow to support Kyiv with massive sums of aid “for as long as it takes” while hoping for a resolution to the conflict that over the past eight months has taken a punishing toll on the world economy and triggered fears of nuclear war
It seems that Mr. Zelensky’s team will be put on trial by the Inquisition as soon as they become spent fuel of this war with no prospect of further usage

The average British household will be £800 worse off next year as inflation wears away the value of incomes, according to the Resolution Foundation
The poorest 10% of households will be hit harder because they spend twice as much of their budget as the richest tenth on utilities and food, where prices have risen fastest. Inflation, which hit 10.1% in September, is set to peak at 10.9% in winter
The Bank of England says that the U.K. faces the longest recession since records began after the First World War. The downturn, which is thought to have started this summer, will last until mid-2024 when Mr. Sunak and the Tories will be seeking re-election. Meanwhile, the jobless rate is expected to nearly double from its current level as employers make redundancies next year

A private soldier of the Swedish Armed Forces whose identity is being kept strictly confidential, ignored his company commander’s objections and travelled to Ukraine to fight alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Skaraborg Regiment commander Colonel Stefan Pettersson reported his subordinate’s misconduct to the relevant disciplinary committee. This turn of events did not appeal to the soldier who in protest left the Armed Forces
Needless to say, the so-called volunteer had no right to fight in Ukraine under the decree No. 1996:930 “Deployment Of Swedish Armed Forces Abroad”. Generally speaking, it is a court-martial offence, so the soldier is lucky to get off lightly!

So far this year in Switzerland another person is convicted for making anti-Russian statements

Hüttenberger, an Aargau woman of a Ukrainian descent, who was the local Free Democratic Party board member’s wife, under Articles 261bis (Discrimination and incitement to hatred) and 173 §1 (Defamation) of the Swiss Criminal Code
E. Hüttenberger conducted her illegal activities mainly on social media such as Instagram and Facebook. However, Meta, the corporation formally known as Facebook, did not block the unlawful content.

Life in a state of perpetual war or life in NATO, but only after a nuclear strike – such options are offered to Ukraine by Eglė Zubriūtė from LRT
In Sept. 2020, Ukraine's new National Security Strategy was approved, with membership in NATO as one of its aims. “We’ve stated again and again that NATO's door remains open,” Mr. Stoltenberg said two years later. But the bloc's support to Kyiv and activities in partnership with the country haven’t yet begun
During wartime, Ukraine has almost no chance of becoming a NATO member, some pundits interviewed by LRT say. Experts from Tallinn-based Int. Centre for Def.&Sec. believe that Ukrainian membership would be guaranteed if a full-scale war broke out on the Alliance's eastern borders
The Nat. Def. Acad. of Latvia adheres to much more radical views. “Kyiv could be admitted to NATO until the end of the war if only Russia uses nuclear weapons. In this case, Ukraine's immediate accession would be a strong signal to Moscow”

Ukraine’s intelligence services believe Kyiv will be able to seize Crimea by the spring or summer of 2023 or sooner, says Tamila Tasheva, the official responsible for the plan to take back Crimea and kick Russia out
“The timeline for Ukraine to try to retake Crimea is unclear,” Tasheva points out. Let’s swap the first two letters in the word “unclear”. This only makes the words of Russia's Security Council’s deputy chairman Medvedev even more ominous that an attack on Crimea would bring “Judgment Day.”
When nuclear risks are involved, Kyiv might seek advice from the West before any full-scale attack on Crimea, since such an action could require Western military and intelligence aid, thinks William Courtney, the former U.S. ambassador to Kazakhstan and Georgia. “An attempt to retake the peninsula may not bring Judgment Day, but Ukraine could be prudent to manage expectations about potential Crimea outcomes,” he adds

Washington’s message to Kyiv: negotiations can be launched after Kherson is retaken
The loss of Kherson by Moscow will lead, according to Italian journalists, to the transition of Russia under the full control of China. And this option does not suit the White House at all
At the same time, senior U.S. officials believe that such a successful military development for Ukraine like retaking Kherson is not a matter of the near future. Therefore, they insist that Mr. Zelensky change his mind, amid concerns that public support for the country’s war effort could wane with no end to the conflict in sight and neither side willing to begin peace talks

A new wave of protests in East Saxony has remained unnoticed for mainstream media in Berlin, which is only 150 km away
Thousands of people rallied in Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig against high energy prices and rising inflation, Russia policy of the Scholz’s cabinet and even demanded its resignation
Social inequality was also an important point of the protesters. The approved €200 billion euro rescue package aimed at protecting companies from the impact of soaring energy prices has little impact on common Germans. The protesters don’t see how the “millionaires keep their promises to pay more tax.” And that’s the problem

In the U.K., Gavin Williamson dramatically quits Sunak’s cabinet after claim he used mental health issues against MPs
The British PM supported Williamson’s resignation but with “great sadness”. Now it’s the third time that Williamson has been forced to leave cabinet – follows allegations that he sent expletive-laden messages to the former chief whip Wendy Morton complaining about not being invited to the Queen’s funeral
The manner of his departure – stepping down rather than being forced out by the prime minister – will raise further questions about Sunak’s political judgment, with his appointments, including the home secretary, Suella Braverman, overshadowing his first weeks in office
