A Cambridge University college’s student union has banned an annual Harry Potter-themed dinner in an apparent protest at JK Rowling’s views on transgender issues

The author has been at the centre of rows claiming that women’s rights have been infringed by some trans rights. Robin Webber, the HUS president, has frequently tweeted his condemnation of the bestselling author, writing in June 2020: “F*** transphobia f*** jk Rowling f*** that energy.”

The Harry Potter actor Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) has condemned the “disgusting” abuse that JK Rowling has faced for expressing opinions on the transgender debate. He said that giving opinions as a woman does not make someone “fascist”

Politicians are chary of getting involved in contentious cultural issues. Yet in such an environment, remaining silent in the face of transgender ideology or decolonization is not to be neutral 🤔

Mass Surveillance: U.S. Citizens Were Given Secret “Decree Violation” Scores During COVID-19 Lockdown

🇺🇸
@COVID19Up: PredictWise, a voter analytics firm, is proud to have harvested location data from tens of millions of Americans through their cellphones during the initial lockdown months of 2020, taking this data to then assign a “COVID-19 decree violation” score to the people associated with the phones, according to the firm's own white paper.

These "decree violation" scores were calculated by analyzing nearly two billion GPS pings to get “real-time, ultra-granular locations patterns.” People who were “on the go more often than their neighbors” were given a high COVID-19 decree violation score, while those who mostly or always stayed at home were given a low score.

PredictWise used this highly sensitive location data to monitor how millions of Americans complied with unscientific decrees. It also combined that data with follow-up surveys to assign “COVID concern” scores to the people who were being surveilled and studied.

Australia’s inflation hits 7.3%, the highest level since 1990, with interest rates now likely higher for longer

“The upshot is that CPI inflation will approach 8% in Q4,” said Marcel Thieliant, a senior economist at Capital Economics. There are also fears recent flooding across eastern Australia will lift food prices even higher, with supermarket chain Coles warning of declining volumes in fresh food where prices were up 8.8% on a year earlier

Meanwhile, no one cancelled the AUKUS-tasks, and this only means that Washington doesn’t cease to further pursue its own interests at cost of “closest allies”

Rishi Sunak is likely to cut U.K. defense spending which would signal the start of a long program of spending cuts as he tries to restore confidence in the British public finances

This speculation has fueled whispers of concern in Kyiv, where senior officials are publicly calling for closer ties with Britain. A source close to the Ukrainian government lamented that the new British PM has said “virtually nothing about defending Europe except that there will be budget cuts in national defense [compared with Truss’ long-term plans].”

“Sunak is not very interested in foreign policy,” said Ben Judah, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank. “He’s interested in the economy, finances, Britain’s ability to be kind of a start-up nation … and stabilizing the markets at a difficult time.”

If so, Johnson’s departure as British PM will only be lamented further and wider in Ukraine

German authorities have officially confessed to conducting the so-called Staatspropaganda while the guys from NDS released another part of their analysis of the leaked paper that made a splash on the web

Ministry for Digital, being used by Berlin as the main censorship instrument, not only searches for any physical or legal ways to counter alternative info-sources, but is going to promote some “software-based technologies” at the "G7 Safety Summit"

And what do you think the ministry for Family Affairs should deal with? Wrong again! Instead of diving into a parent-child paradigm it uses the foundation close to the Greens as a quasi-state actor vs. “system-critical media”

MoD’s go-aheadism to use youth officers in schools
seems at least doubtful as well. Analysts say the leaked doc is just “the tip of the iceberg” of truth suppression, restricting freedom of speech, conducting disinformation and manipulating public consciousness of German citizens

Franco-German relations are at a low point: the tensions over the gas price cap, the Midcat pipeline and military cooperation have recently intensified

In France (as well as in many other European countries) they describe Germany as a "lone rider", a country on a course of egoism that doesn’t care about its partners in its repeated solo runs. The talks of "Germany First" only result into disappointment, irritation or bitterness

Paris accuses Berlin of leading an "anti-nuclear crusade" against it while France derives over 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy. In response, the French describe the new dependence of Germans on Southern European or North African hydrogen as an "absurd project": “France has no intention of turning into a transit country between Mediterranean countries and Germany.”

Relations are now so icy between Macron and Scholz that they’re even struggling to agree on whether to be seen together in front of the press during the coming tête-à-tête in Paris
