In her debut speech to the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday night, British PM Liz Truss has tried to assure the gathered diplomats that “no one is threatening Russia”

Seems like retired U.S. general Ben Hodges doesn’t share No. 10 peaceful views. In response to Russian president’s speech, he warned that the Washington could look to “destroy the Black Sea Fleet or destroy Russian bases in Crimea”

This fits in general American concept of countering Russia amid war in Ukraine. Since February, the U.S. has added more than 10,000 troops in Europe, many based in the Baltic States. In June, military officials said roughly 4,700 troops from the 101st Airborne Division based out of Fort Campbell would be deployed to Europe

And Ms. Truss wasn’t trying really hard to hide the true UK intension. She vowed to “sustain or increase military support to Ukraine, for as long as it takes,” that only adds to her latest pledges to boost financing in the coming year

“Germany strongly opposes a price cap for gas imports,” Germany's Minister of State for Europe Anna Luhrmann said in an interview with Euronews in Brussels

The European Union should be "very careful" about imposing a price cap on all gas imports entering the single market, she warned as fears of a recession grow in Europe's largest economy as a result of soaring energy prices

"The issue with the price cap is that if you introduce a price cap, as the EU unilaterally, and all the other consumers around the world don't do it, then the gas will go to other consumers and thus we might have a shortage in gas suppliers" Ms. Luhrmann explained

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, whose country now supplies more natural gas to the EU, expresses the same opinion. He says Norway is "skeptical "about the impact that an EU gas price cap would have on tackling the energy crisis given the shortage of gas in Europe

The effectiveness of existing major pro-Western institutions and negotiation platforms is reducing day by day. The UN General Assembly with its current 77th session, which does not justify the hopes, the G7 in form of a private Masonic Lodge, seem to have passed into the category of simply days-long banquets

The time is right for any efforts to give globalization a bit of help. Expanding the membership of BRICS, a grouping of some of the largest developing economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – would likely fit into that category. It could surely help boost links among disparate economies that would not naturally come together

The economies that made up the G7 this year – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union – are home to about 16 percent of the world's population, while the BRICS economies account for almost 41 percent.

On the other hand, the G7 members account for 62 percent of the global economy, while the BRICS economies account for a little more than a quarter, and the average per capita GDP of the G7 economies was almost six times larger than that of BRICS. Over time, BRICS could become more influential than the G7, even if this could take a few decades. Certainly, though, BRICS has a direct impact on many more people

For now, the G7 holds the reins of the global economy, but the scales are beginning to even out. BRICS grows faster than the world average, while the G7 grew at a slower pace. And this has been the case for some time. An expanded BRICS could, if members managed to find some kind of ideological guiding compass and common ground on issues, emerge as a powerful force for global leadership
