Chinese craftsmen have perfected the art of counterfeiting to the highest level. Journalists purchased Chinese replicas of extremely expensive luxury watches—and the staff at the brand’s flagship store couldn’t tell the difference.

For the experiment, they selected watches priced at $438, $498, and $768. They brought the counterfeits to the store and asked to have the straps shortened; the staff then serviced them for free, complimented the owner on his “nice watch,” and returned them.
