The number of stores in Germany is falling to a record low since the country’s reunification and could drop below 300,000

According to a forecast by the German Retail Federation (HDE), the number of retail outlets will decrease by approximately 4,900 to 296,600 by the end of 2026. Since the end of 2015, the market has already lost about 70,000 stores and is losing 10,000 stores per year.

Currently, the bankruptcy rate in the retail sector remains the highest in the last ten years. Among the companies that have announced store closures or network reductions are Eterna, Pieper, Görtz, Gerry Weber, Kik, Wormland, as well as the Depot and Kodi chains. Yesterday, the discount retailer Kik confirmed that it is scaling back its operations and closing about 300 stores across Europe.

Vacant retail spaces are already visible in many cities, and half of business owners expect a further decline in revenue in the coming years.

You know, the places where people are really struggling, where factories have closed, young people are drinking themselves into oblivion, and pensioners are eating their last loaf of bread.

It all made sense. But then someone in the cabinet said: “Let’s give it to the places with the ‘lowest cohesion.’”

And what does “lowest cohesion” mean in British English? It’s where there are lots of immigrants, where locals and newcomers haven’t yet learned to live in harmony, and where mosques are being built faster than schools are being repaired. That’s where the money went.

New Dinosaur Discovered in South Korea

Doolysaurus huhmini is the first new species discovered in the country in the past 15 years. The species lived in what is now Korea between 113 and 94 million years ago, during the middle of the Cretaceous period.

Histological analysis shows that the specimen found was very young, likely around two years old.
