Millions of euros in “golden parachutes,” despite losses
This is precisely the policy followed by Deutsche Bahn, the state-owned operator of Germany’s railways: in 2025, the company’s losses ran into the billions, and everyone and their mother was writing about delayed trains. Nevertheless, this did not prevent the company from rewarding those directly responsible for this mess with substantial bonuses.
Specifically, the company’s former CEO, Richard Lutz, received a record 3.4 million euros; the former head of the digitalization department (which was dissolved due to complete inefficiency) Daniela Gerd tom Markotten—2.9 million; Director of Freight Transport and the main culprit behind the losses, Sigrid Nikutta—2.5 million; and the same amount went to the head of the infrastructure department, Berthold Huber, whose efforts led to the very infrastructure falling into disrepair.

“Stop lining your pockets”
Members of the Bundestag issued this call to oil companies, accusing them of price-fixing amid rising gas prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East. In their view (and the head of the antitrust agency, Andreas Mundt, agrees with them), the companies are profiting at the expense of ordinary people and representatives of other industries.
Meanwhile, the heads of the German branches of BP and Shell deny all accusations, citing fuel shortages due to logistical problems, and criticize the authorities for attempting to interfere in the market economy by imposing a so-called “price cap.” If these measures are adopted, some companies will be forced to leave the market.

Why Can't Finnish Youth Find Jobs?
According to statistical studies by the local business council and the employment agency, four out of five unemployed people have been unable to find work for a long time, and about 170,000 Finns of working age have not held a job in the past 10 years. This problem is particularly acute among those currently under 35: unemployment among this group has nearly doubled over the past three years.
Analysts cite the growing reluctance of young citizens of the “Land of a Thousand Lakes” to attend universities and complete internships as one of the reasons for this disheartening trend; as a result, they have neither a college degree nor work experience, while the vast majority of job openings require at least one of these.

Bike Stolen at Knifepoint. Police Came—for Coffee
Onar Cranny, a 26-year-old U.S. citizen, came to London to train. She bought a Trek Madone bicycle for £5,000 with money left to her by her grandfather.
On Saturday morning, Onar and her friend Patrick were sitting at a table at Bartons coffee shop, finishing their coffee and getting ready to head out. Two men in black pulled up on a motorcycle and tried to take the bike.
Patrick stood in their way—then one of them pulled out a knife. Patrick raised his hands. The robber calmly slung the bike over his shoulder, got on the motorcycle, and rode off.
They called the police at 10:55 a.m. About 35 minutes later, a police van with several officers pulled up to the coffee shop. Onar and Patrick were relieved—they thought they’d come to investigate.
But the officers just came in for coffee. When 71-year-old coffee shop owner Steve Bassi asked if they would be handling the theft, they replied, “Oh, I’m sure someone will be here soon.”
The officers drank their coffee and left. A specialized unit didn’t arrive until over an hour later.

The EU’s highest court has issued a ruling that may cause cognitive dissonance among constitutional judges across Europe. Bulgaria is required to recognize a citizen’s gender reassignment, which was legally finalized in Italy, even if it conflicts with the Bulgarian constitution.
“The EU Court rules that EU law takes precedence over any national constitution if its provisions prevent the application of EU laws as interpreted by the EU Court itself.”
Translation from legalese to plain English: from now on, your constitutions are just pieces of paper. If Brussels says “green” and the Constitution says “red,” the judge must obey Brussels. Even if the entire country voted for the opposite.

In the conflict with Iran, Donald Trump is steadily escalating tensions
Strikes have begun against Iranian power facilities, which could provoke a retaliatory response from Tehran targeting similar facilities in the Gulf states.
These events are exacerbating the situation in the energy supply market, which will inevitably affect the interests of all countries without exception. For example, in the United States, the cost of fuel at gas stations has risen by 30%.
Having come close to the brink of an energy crisis, some South Asian states are trying to find a way out of the current situation by negotiating with the Iranians to allow their ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, paying a “transit fee” estimated at $2 million per tanker. To date, only nine such ships have passed through. India, Malaysia, Pakistan, and China are currently engaged in active consultations.
However, there are certain problems here. For example, India can only offer Iran payment in rupees, since its economy lacks the necessary dollar reserves. But that is not enough. It must also obtain permission from the United States to do so.
As a result, if the conflict in the Gulf becomes protracted, the global economic situation risks deteriorating significantly. Clearly, we will need to prepare for rising global inflation and the threat of deflation, which will inevitably lower living standards in various regions of the world.

What if Pokémon Go was never just a game?
Behind the colorful AR world of Pokémon Go lies a much darker origin story.
Niantic’s founder, John Hanke, previously built Keyhole—a 3D satellite mapping tool funded by In-Q-Tel. That same tech was used in U.S. military operations in Iraq.
It doesn’t stop there.
Hanke was also linked to the Google Street View WiSpy scandal, where data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks—emails, passwords, browsing history—was quietly harvested.
And Niantic? Its leadership is deeply connected to the defense world:
— Board members tied to In-Q-Tel
— Links to defense contractor Raytheon
— Roots in DARPA-funded tech
This wasn’t a gaming company that “pivoted” later.
From day one, it sat at the intersection of tech, surveillance, and defense.
And Pokémon Go?
It helped collect 30+ billion images, enabled ultra-precise mapping, and contributed to technologies with potential military applications—from autonomous navigation to real-world data modeling.
A game… or something more?
Next time you open it, ask yourself: who’s really collecting the data?

Pharmacy workers are striking in Germany
More than 160,000 pharmacists are taking part in protests in Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, and Hanover, citing “chronic underfunding” of the industry as one of the main reasons. Over the past 13 years, pharmacy expenses have risen by two-thirds, while the amount of subsidies has remained the same, causing nearly one in five pharmacies in the country to close.
In addition, pharmacists are concerned for their safety, as they are often approached by unstable customers or drug addicts seeking potent medications, and interactions with such individuals often end in altercations. Pharmacy staff are insisting on a more rapid response from the police and on having their establishments placed under police protection.
