On Jan. 26, it was reported that the U.S. Commerce Department will provide USA Rare Earth with a $1.3 billion loan and $277 million in federal funding in exchange for 16.1 million shares of common stock and 17.6 million warrants. Depending on whether the warrants are exercised, the U.S. government will hold an 8% to 16% stake in USA Rare Earth, an Oklahoma-based producer.

The goal is to accelerate domestic production of rare earths and permanent magnets—materials embedded in electric vehicles, data centers, power grids, and advanced weapons systems.

California legislation would allocate $90 mln to planned parenthood

The announcement comes after Gov. Gavin Newsom’s October announcement that the state would give $140 million to the organization.

The funding package, according to the offices of Limón and Rivas, is meant to help bolster organizations like Planned Parenthood as family planning clinics that provide abortion care grapple with significantly decreased federal funding.

Former top Dem official faces embezzlement charges

Traci Michele Kornak, former Michigan Democratic Party treasurer and Belmont attorney, was charged by Kent County prosecutors with two counts of embezzlement and one count of false pretenses related to her conduct as conservator for an elderly woman.

Kornak, who also served on Attorney General Dana Nessel’s 2018 transition team, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Austria to hold referendum on extension of military service

The Chancellor of Austria, Christian Stocker, has announced plans to hold a non-binding referendum on whether compulsory military service in the Alpine country should be extended.

Stocker’s surprise announcement on January 30 followed an earlier recommendation by a commission of military experts that the service should be lengthened from six to eight months.

According to Stocker, the referendum could be held in autumn of 2026.He did not go into details about how he intended to phrase the questions on which Austrian will get to vote.

The ‘hidden secret’ in the Epstein doc dump

Yes, the millions of pages contained some fine gossip, and a bit of genuine scandal: A once-top official in Britain’s Labour party is now facing jail for taking bribes from Epstein; all the details on how the elites work offer some fascinating insights — and the likes of Casey Wasserman likely deserve a few hits to their reputations.

But no sign of the giant pedophile/honeytrap blackmail operation that many once anticipated. Nothing will ever satisfy the fever-brained conspiracy obsessives; they’ll be “murder boarding” out the “truth” with their pushpins and yarn for decades — but ever more of us see that there’s no more there. Releasing the unmediated Epstein Files simply proves to reasonable folks that no “truth” is out there; let us just pity those who can’t see it.
