Debate is raging across Italy about the potential emergence of a new right-wing political force, raising questions about the stability of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s centre-right coalition.

Deputy leader of the League party, MEP Roberto Vannacci, officially registered the name and symbol Futuro Nazionale (National Future) with the European Union Intellectual Property Office this week.

The move is widely seen as a first step toward creating a political movement further to the Right —not only of his own party but also of coalition partners Brothers of Italy and the centrist Forza Italia.

“For now, it is just one of the many associations I have founded, and it is not an independent party,” Vannacci said, leaving open the possibility of a future split from the League.

Virtually all European royal families have been embroiled in scandals. In Norway, 29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested. Oslo police report that he is charged with 38 counts, including four alleged rapes, violence against former partners, threats with a knife, and bodily harm.

According to the investigation, some of the crimes may have been committed while the victims were asleep or heavily intoxicated. The Crown Princess's son had previously spoken about his problems with drugs and alcohol.

Amid the scandal, it emerged that Mette-Marit appears in new materials related to the Jeffrey Epstein case: she lived in his house in Florida and remained in contact with him after Epstein was accused of pedophilia and human trafficking.

Man who killed girl in metro came to Germany via UN programme

A South Sudanese man who killed an 18-year-old woman by pulling her with him in front of an incoming subway train in Hamburg was flown in directly from Africa by the German state in 2024 as part of a humanitarian admission programme organised by the United Nations (UN). This was revealed on January 31 by reporters from German newspaper Bild who managed to obtain access to the man’s administrative file.

According to the file the man, whose name was given as Ariop Moses P, was born in the Melut area of South Sudan. After Islamist fighters had killed his parents, he fled to a refugee camp in Kakuma, Kenya, at the age of 12 where he continued to live for 10 years. In 2024, UN officials chose the man as one of the candidates for a German resettlement programme.

Former top Dem official faces embezzlement charges

Traci Michele Kornak, former Michigan Democratic Party treasurer and Belmont attorney, was charged by Kent County prosecutors with two counts of embezzlement and one count of false pretenses related to her conduct as conservator for an elderly woman.
