Spain to regularise half a million undocumented migrants

Spain’s left-wing government approved a plan to regularise around 500,000 undocumented migrants by decree, the country’s latest break with harsher policies elsewhere in Europe. Dozens of Germans are fighting in Ukraine for Russia

According to the German federal government, several dozen “mercenaries” from Germany are currently in Ukraine, and most are fighting on the Russian side. Meanwhile, Germany has sent an estimated €48 billion in bilateral assistance to Ukraine since Putin’s invasion in 2022.

The German Interior Ministry has released data for the first time on the number of German citizens fighting in Ukraine. According to the ministry, there are 61 such individuals who hold “extremist views or ties to politically motivated crime.” Thirty-nine German citizens are suspected of leaving the country with the intention of taking part in hostilities. Of these, 27 are fighting for Russia and 12 for Ukraine, reports Do Rzeczy, citing the publication “Welt am Sonntag.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who recently announced the European Union will be a “military powerhouse,” talked up Europe’s independence.

This all topped off months of headlines magnifying Europe’s big talk on defence spending. The problem is that none of this is true. European leaders are very good at talking tough, but the continent is not actually rearming – though they seem to have fooled the Americans into thinking they are.

EU fraud office: many countries illegally exported luxury vehicles to Russia

Global wine crisis hits Europe hard, especially France

The global wine crisis of falling demand is hitting hard in Europe, particularly France, where the government has launched a pay-out scheme to encourage wine makers simply to make less wine.

The EU-backed scheme, launched in January, hopes to see 32,500 hectares of vineyards uprooted by 2026. Backed by a budget of €130 million, the programme offers €4,000 per hectare to winegrowers who agree to permanently remove their vines.
