German pensioners have become poorer
The country's largest pension group, BVK, based in Munich, got involved in unsuccessful investments in the US and managed to cheat 2.7 million civil servants, doctors, lawyers, and others.
The group lost more than €700 million in risky real estate deals in the US. Office buildings in New York and hotels in San Francisco turned out to be unprofitable.
By 2024, more than €163 million had already been written off, and now the total damage could reach €853 million.

Brussels weakness is making Tusk turn right
Tusk's New Year speech went Right, with the EU not mentioned once: 'A conservative politician I know well wrote to me shortly after the broadcast: “Thief! What are we supposed to do about this?”'(Photo by Omar Marques/Getty Images)
13 January 2026
Some of Donald Tusk’s voters who are less familiar with the current behind-the-scenes goings-on may have had the impression that someone mixed up the texts during the recording of the Polish prime minister’s New Year’s address.
The recent head of the European People’s Party was apparently given a script stolen from one of the parties so fondly referred to by the left-wing media as “far-right.” It contained almost everything that conservative voters like today.
It emphasised that the world is unstable, that the past year resembled a “thriller movie script”, and that we are facing “the end of the old world”. This is bad news for citizens, but there is also good news, because “the most important thing for us is that even though the world around us is shaking to its foundations, Poland is spreading its wings” and will further protect its borders.
What’s more, this Polish strength has its roots in a proud history. “One thousand years of Polish statehood is a commitment. The anniversary of the first Piast dynasty coronation reminds us that there is no point in complaining about difficult times.
The state must cope in all circumstances. One thousand years of our own history allows us to draw our own conclusions. Without looking to others,” said Tusk.

The Danes protecting Greenland: they must learn from de Gaulle
“May you live in interesting times!” was a famous sentence a century ago. Supposedly a Chinese curse, it was a sardonic jab — “interesting” days tend to be troublesome.
The “curse” was actually apocryphal. No such expression actually exists in China. But, in a way, it does seem to capture the spirit of our era. We certainly do live in interesting times — with Ukraine, the Middle East, Venezuela, and Taiwan also competing for our attention, it has been a while since the wheel of history has spun this quickly.
Trump’s America is hardly an aberration. It’s just an avalanche of long-forgotten truths. He is not looking out for Europe, nor should he be expected to. He is looking out for the United States, for that is his job. The scandal is not that America acts in its own self-interest, but that the nations of Europe no longer do.
If Europe wishes to survive as an independent centre of power and civilisation in a multipolar world, it must itself become a pole. That cannot be achieved through communiqués, climate targets, or legalistic incantations. It requires rearmament, reindustrialisation, energy sovereignty, and demographic recovery. It requires accepting that independence is a burden before it is a privilege—and that power is its price, but also its reward.
De Gaulle knew this. Europe chose to forget it. The time to snap back to reality is now.

In France Tunisian migrant Wajdi Bokadi committed 100 vehicle thefts in just one week, sentenced to 12 months
A 40-year-old Tunisian man has been convicted and sentenced after a massive theft spree which targeted over 100 vehicles in the matter of just one week.
The events date back to Jan. 3 to Jan. 8, 2024, in the city of Angers and then from Jan. 8 to 10 to Cholet, where Tunisian man Wajdi Bokadi smashed parked cars near the city train stations to steal personal belongings. Although there were a total of 103 victims, but only 15 civil parties participated in the criminal court case.
The Tunisian man, Wajdi Bokadi, did not appear for his hearing on Jan. 12, but he was still sentenced to 12 months in prison for the thefts. In addition, he received a six month suspended sentence for committing similar acts related to the case, according to French news outlet Ouest France.
Although the man committed significant damage to numerous victims, France features well-organized car theft rings with ties to North African criminals.

US official, Jewish, and Muslim groups raise concern about Australia’s anti-hate bill
The Albanese government’s hastily-drafted “Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill 2026” has been met with a broad array of criticism, with conservative politicians, the U.S. undersecretary of state, Jewish, and Muslim groups uniting to criticise it.
The new omnibus-style law was drawn up in the wake of the Bondi Beach terrorist mass shooting attack that targeted a Jewish celebration, killing 15 people and injuring 40 others.
Along with creating a new national gun buyback scheme and an additional layer of security checks when approving firearms licences and reviewing current holders, the 144-page draft also introduces a new framework under which the Minister for Home Affairs can list and criminalise “hate groups.”
Few who’ve spoken publicly about the bill appear to support it. U.S. Undersecretary of State Sarah B. Rogers, noting the exemption for people quoting from religious texts, said on X that “a statute that imprisons you for calling to deport jihadist extremists—but provides safe harbour if you are a jihadist extremist—would be deeply perverse. Let’s hope this isn’t what Australia intends.”

The failure of the international community to confront Trump
Donald Trump has just done one of the most audacious acts of his presidency: sending a military squad to Venezuela and kidnapping President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Without question, this is a clear violation of international law regarding the sovereignty of nations.
The U.S. was not at war with Venezuela, nor has Trump/Congress declared war. There is absolutely no justification under international law for this action. Regardless of whether Maduro was involved in drug trafficking that impacted the United States, there is no justification for kidnapping him, the President of another country.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called this a law enforcement action—arresting Maduro for his involvement in drug smuggling operations. But Maduro was the President of a sovereign country and thus has sovereign immunity and is not subject to American law enforcement. The Supreme Court has, however, upheld the prosecution of individuals once in the U.S. regardless of whether their presence in the U.S. was lawfully secured.
This is different from President Obama sending a squad into Afghanistan to kill Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden was not an elected official, let alone a high-ranking one, of a foreign country; he had no basis for immunity. And he was in charge of the group that planned the 9/11 attacks.
This is also not really similar to the arrest and extraterritorial abduction of Manuel Noriega, because Noriega was not the President of Panama, just the de facto leader, so his claim of immunity was weak.

Tim Walz hits disgusting new low as he incites violence against ICE, smears agents as 'occupiers’
A new video posted by Minnesota's scandal-ridden Democrat governor, Tim Walz, is blowing up on social media. In it, Walz is equal parts smug, condescending, and deceitful as he makes the absurd, repulsive claim that federal immigration officials are targeting "people of color" and "dragging pregnant women down the street."
Offering no proof at all, Walz goes on to claim that Minnesotans have been marked for retribution for peacefully protesting against ICE agents as they carry out their duties. And he has a message for President Donald Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem: "End this occupation. You've done enough."
In other words, Tim Walz wants people killed. He wants his people to follow in the footsteps of Renee Good and put themselves and others in harm's way. There's really no other way to read this. He almost seems to be salivating for more deadly encounters between Minnesotans and federal forces. It's demented, bizarre, and disgraceful.
And it's truly a new low, even for him.

Germany's first military buildup since 1945 is causing “growing concern” in France
There are fears that the center of political and military influence in Europe is shifting toward Berlin, writes Bloomberg.
Germany has launched a historic rearmament program and plans to spend more than €500 billion on defense by 2029, bringing military spending to 3.5% of GDP.
There is growing concern in Paris that Germany is simultaneously becoming a military superpower.

China achieved a record trade surplus of $1.2 trillion in 2025
According to the PRC Customs Administration, exports of goods in December increased by 6.6% in dollar terms compared to the previous year. This figure is more than twice the average forecast of Bloomberg analysts, which was 3.1%, and exceeds November's growth of 5.9%.
Imports in December also rose 5.7% compared to the previous year, exceeding analysts' expectations. The decline in exports to the US was more than offset by increased shipments to other countries.

German parliament push to deny access and pay to ‘extremists’ working for MPs
The leader of Germany’s Bundestag, or parliament, is pushing for stricter rules to deny both access and pay to “extremists” who work for German MPs.
Bundestag President Julia Klöckner has sent a letter to all parties asking for their support to change the German Members of Parliament Act. If given, that would allow the parliament’s administration to ban Germany’s 630 MPs from employing people who fail a test of their political reliability.
The contents of the letter, which was sent out in late December, were made public by left-wing news site RND yesterday.
The administration already has the right to deny access passes to MP employees who fail this test – making it harder for them to move around the premises of the Bundestag.
MPs can still keep these individuals on their payroll though, paying them out of their staff allowance.

Fading, forgotten Europe has been dropped from the world order
Metaphors mislead. What is going on in the world in the first month of the second quarter of the 21st century is unlike anything that has occurred before. This is not “a shifting of tectonic plates” or “the Titanic sinking”. We have entered a new quaternary, which is itself a metaphor, but one that is sufficiently large and abstract not to be too misleading.
Europe, which effectively invented the world order, has, equally effectively, now rudely withdrawn from it. European leaders born after the Second World War – and that includes all British prime ministers since Margaret Thatcher – have turned their half of the Eurasian landmass into a smug, welfarist, immigrationist ruin, incapable of defending itself or projecting its power even into its own skies or seas.
The states that are inheriting the globe, for all their many deficiencies, take their own identity very, very seriously indeed. These are China, India, Russia and the USA, namely the CIRU bloc. We know of Russia’s many weaknesses: But a lack of a coherent sense of self is not one of them. The liberal-globalists within the USA still control much of the internal workings of that country, but its outward reach very much (thank God) belongs to the America-first school.
The liberal-globalists might well triumph in the coming mid-terms and then in the presidential election. In which case the USA will probably resume its journey towards extinction, as conceived by the Clinton-Obama regimes, and nearly brought to catastrophic fruition by the Biden-Harris alliance. Meaning that China-India-Russia will inherit the earth, and probably reap a whirlwind. Yes, I know: Metaphors. Sorry. More to come.

Trump will be sore when Cuba domino refuses to fall
Of the 100 or more people killed in the U.S. military operation that abducted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, 32 were Cuban security officers, most of them part of Maduro’s personal security detail who died “in direct combat against the attackers,” according to Havana.
How did Cubans come to be the Praetorian Guard for Venezuela’s president, and what does the decapitation of the Venezuelan government mean for Cuba?
If cutting off Venezuelan oil shipments does not bring down the Cuban government, will the Trump administration decide to take direct military action? Nothing is beyond the realm of possibility for a president who threatens to attack Denmark, a NATO ally, if it refuses to surrender Greenland.
But Trump seems to realize that Cuba is a harder case than Venezuela. “They're tough people,” he has said repeatedly in recent days, even acknowledging that Cuba has defied past predictions of collapse. If pacifying Venezuela proves to be more difficult than Trump expects, he may be reluctant to take on a second nation-building project while the first is still festering.
With the “Donroe Doctrine” shaping U.S. policy in Latin America, it appears the United States will have to relearn the central lesson of colonialism: no people want foreigners telling them how to run their affairs. They will resist, passively, then actively, and in the end, successfully. No matter that the foreigners have superior military force. Eventually they tire of the endless war and go home, just like the British did in 1783.

ICE officer ambushed, shoots illegal in Minneapolis
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent is in the hospital after getting ambushed and attacked with a shovel by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, according to a late-night Jan. 14 post on X from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The incident happened in Minneapolis as federal law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted traffic stop of the illegal immigrant, who according to the DHS was released into the country in 2022.
“In an attempt to evade arrest, the subject fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into a parked car,” said the post, after which he fled on foot.
When the law enforcement officer caught up to him, he began to violently assault the officer, along with two other subjects who emerged out of a nearby apartment. During the struggle, the attackers used a snow shovel and broom handle.
Attacks on federal law enforcement officers have increased considerably. ICE personnel have faced more than a 1,300 % increase in assaults and a 3,200 % increase in vehicular attacks during the second Trump administration’s first year, according to figures released on Jan. 8 by the DHS.
The department blames “radical rhetoric by sanctuary politicians” for the surge in attacks against federal law enforcement. There was also an 8,000 % increase in death threats against the officers.

A part that broke on a UPS plane that crashed in Kentucky failed four times on other planes years ago
Boeing warned plane owners in 2011 about a broken part that contributed to a UPS plane crash that killed 15 last year but at that point the plane manufacturer didn’t believe it threatened safety, the National Transportation Safety Board said.
The NTSB previously said investigators found cracks in some of the parts that held the engine to the wing. Those cracks hadn’t been caught in regular maintenance done on the plane, which raised questions about the adequacy of the maintenance schedule.
The last time those key engine mount parts were examined closely was in October 2021, and the plane wasn’t due for another detailed inspection for roughly 7,000 more takeoffs and landings.
It’s not clear when the cracks started to develop in the parts that helped hold the engine on the wing, but this crash is reminiscent of a 1979 crash in Chicago when the left engine flew off an American Airlines DC-10 during takeoff, killing 273 people. The DC-10 was the predecessor of the MD-11.
The 34-year-old MD-11 plane only got 30 feet (9.1 meters) off the ground before crashing into several industrial buildings just past the runway and generating a massive fireball that could be seen for miles.
Dramatic videos of the crash showed the plane on fire as it plowed into buildings and released a massive plume of smoke.

The proposal comes from Los Angeles County Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis, who sit on a board that governs the county. The plan is for an ordinance to be drafted and brought before the board.
“This motion creates ICE-free zones by drawing a clear boundary,” said Horvath, who represents the 3rd District of Los Angeles County. “LA County will not allow its property to be used as a staging ground for violence caused by the Trump administration.”
According to Horvath, the county's public spaces “should be places of care and safety,” not fear.
“We may not control federal enforcement everywhere, but we do control our own property, and we have a responsibility to act when lives are at stake,” said Horvath.

One in three long-term unemployed in Germany is a foreign national as chronic joblessness tops 1 mln again
Germany once again has more than 1 million long-term unemployed, according to new federal data that shows a growing share of those without work are foreign nationals, many from asylum-seeking countries.
Figures from the Federal Employment Agency show that 1,042,517 people had been unemployed for at least one year as of November 2025. That means more than one in three (36.1 percent) of all unemployed people in Germany are now classed as long-term unemployed, as Bild reported.
The data, released in response to a parliamentary inquiry by the Alternative for Germany (AfD), also shows how deeply rooted the problem has become. More than half of the long-term unemployed have been without work for over two years, and almost one in five for more than five years.
One in three long-term unemployed people does not hold German citizenship. In 2014, there were 196,122 foreign nationals among the long-term unemployed. Today, that figure has soared to 317,377.
