Summit of The Americas | CIG #commentary
In 1994, the US had ambitious plans for the Summit of the Americas in Miami. They wanted to expand NAFTA into the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). For better or worse, they had a clear mission.
Today it remains to be seen whether they even have a serious gameplan to bring at all. They're going to focus on gender inequality, climate change, democracy and migration. These are not top priorities for those countries.
They do have a chance here to counter Chinese influence with trade deals and strengthen supply chains through near-shoring policies.

US President Joe Biden is expected to discuss issues regarding Brazil's electoral system with Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro this week, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Wednesday (8).
The senior US government official had said earlier that it was up to the Brazilian delegation to decide whether to address Bolsonaro's doubts about Brazil's voting system during the meeting with Biden.
"There is no topic off limits (from Biden) for any president, bilaterally, including with President Bolsonaro. I anticipate the president discussing free, fair and transparent democratic elections," Sullivan pointed out to reporters aboard Air Force One, the US presidential plane.

According to Folha de São Paulo, in his meeting with Joe Biden, the president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), may ask the US leader to remove tariffs on steel sheets produced in Brazil, a protectionist measure created by former President Donald Trump in 2018.
According to the media, one of the arguments for this is that the current measures end up benefiting Russia.
The newspaper reports that as a protectionist measure, the US created a 25% surcharge on imported steel, in a rule called Section 232.Brazil, like some other countries, obtained a steel export quota free of this charge, and the plea now is that this limit be extended, extinguished or that the country pay a lower rate, according to Brazilian diplomats involved in the preparation of the meeting heard by Folha.
One of the most exported products by Brazil are semi-finished steel plates, whose current quota is 3.5 million tons per year.

The Nauru 1000C is the CAT 2 RPAS selected by the Brazilian Army for ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) missions, weighing 150kg.
The ENFORCER missile is a new generation guided light weapon system, weighing about 7kg and providing the capability to defeat a wide variety of light and lightly armored targets, including fast moving vehicles and protected targets.
