🇧🇷 — Law allocating R$ 27 billion to social programmes published

Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), president of the National Congress, promulgated Law 14.469/22, which allocates financial resources for the maintenance of social programs. The text was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU), on Thursday 17.

The new law is the result of Provisional Measure 1130/22, which granted extraordinary credit of just over R$ 27 billion in the General Budget of the Union in the year 2022 for the payment of social benefits provided for in Constitutional Amendment 123.

The law provides for the transfer of money to the Ministry of Citizenship in order to enable an increase of R$ 200 in the Brazil Aid programme (R$ 25.5 billion in total) and reinforcement in the Gas Aid (R$ 1.04 billion). Another R$ 86.9 million will go to the Ministry of Economy to cover costs and bank charges related to Auxílio Brasil, according to Agência Câmara.

To sustain Alimenta Brasil, R$500 million will be allocated. The program ensures food security for people served by the government's social assistance network through food produced by family farms.

On Friday, November 18, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Gilmar Mendes suspended a Federal Justice action that investigated a corruption, fraud and money laundering scheme against members of the Simonsen family, founder of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

Gilmar Mendes also criticized the use of ex-governor Sérgio Cabral's (MDB) delation and the evidence to support the operation's searches and seizures. "It should be added that it is not possible to glimpse, from the copy of the decision attached by the defense, concrete evidence of crimes committed to the detriment of goods, services or interests of the Union".
