Treadmill Pro: your phone as the treadmill remote

Treadmill Pro is a free app for iPhone, iPad and Android. It finds your treadmill over Bluetooth, so you can change speed and incline without reaching for the console. Each walk and run is saved with distance, pace and calories, and on iPhone it also goes to Apple Health.

Coming up here a few times a week:
#updates - new versions and fixes
#devices - treadmills we've just added support for
#tips - advice for walking and running indoors

๐Ÿ† Treadmill Pro has a weekly leaderboard.

Minutes walked this week rank you against everyone else on the app, and the count resets every Monday, so a long streak from months ago doesn't lock in a permanent lead over someone who started this week.

โŒš๏ธ Speed and incline also change from the Apple Watch. Every session logs to a workout history synced with Apple Health.
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Steps or pace? A new study says both count

A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine this September looked at daily steps together with walking pace:

๐Ÿข Under 5,000 steps a day, a pace above 80 steps per minute was linked to the same drop in death risk as 5,000 to 7,500 slow steps
๐Ÿšถ 7,500 to 10,000 steps a day had the lowest risk at any pace
๐Ÿ“Œ Earlier this year a Vanderbilt study linked 1,700 to 5,500 extra daily steps with lower risk of several chronic diseases

On a treadmill pace is easy to control: set the speed and you know exactly how brisk you are walking.
โค๏ธ Your heart rate, live, next to speed and incline.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Pulled straight from Apple Watch or HealthKit.
โฑ Shown while you're still walking, not in an end-of-walk summary.
๐Ÿ“ˆ See the exact moment a small incline change raised your effort.

Pace alone never tells the whole story.
โฑ Same 30 minutes, different walk

Last month's BJSM study found that at under 5,000 steps a day, walking faster than 80 steps per minute was linked to the same lower death risk as a few thousand extra slow steps.

โช Before: a slow shuffle while reading email, speed set once and never touched.
โฉ After: the same half hour, with a few brisk stretches when a call ends, then back to easy.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Changing speed from your phone makes those short bursts something you actually do, instead of something you mean to do.
โค๏ธ Where do your treadmill walks end up?

A lot of treadmill apps keep your sessions inside their own account. Treadmill Pro writes each session to Apple Health, next to your steps and workouts from everywhere else.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Where do you keep your walking history?
๐ŸŽ Apple Health
โŒš My watch app
๐Ÿ“ฆ Inside the treadmill's own app
๐Ÿคท Nowhere, I just walk

Curious how many people actually look back at the numbers.
๐Ÿšถ Most of us count steps and call it a day. But a September study in BJSM shows that's only half the story.

โฑ๏ธ Pace matters as much as volume. Under 5,000 steps walked at 80+ steps per minute gives you the same mortality benefit as 5,000-7,500 slower steps. You don't have to choose between speed and distance.

๐Ÿ“ฑ If you're working at an under-desk treadmill, this changes how you think about your day. You can control incline and speed from Treadmill Pro without breaking focus, then sync the workout to Apple Health and see both metrics clearly.

๐ŸŽฏ The sweet spot remains 7,500-10,000 steps at any pace. But now you know: if you've got less time, walking faster still counts.

๐Ÿ”Œ Does Treadmill Pro work with your treadmill?

Very likely. The app finds the treadmill by itself over Bluetooth and speaks FTMS, WalkingPad, Gymax and several other protocols.

๐Ÿ“‹ Our support page lists over 99 models, and any treadmill that broadcasts FTMS works too.

The app is free to download. Pro is an optional subscription.

๐Ÿ“ž Walking through a call?

Eyes on the screen, hands where they are. In Treadmill Pro you change speed and incline from your phone, or from your wrist with the Apple Watch app.

No bending down to the console mid-sentence.
