MARCH 17: THE APOSTLE OF IRELAND
Saint Padraig
Bishop
Died: 464
---
St. Patrick was a British bishop. He was kidnapped by pirates in his teens and was brought to Ireland as a slave. He escaped and returned to Britain. After being ordained, he was sent to Ireland as a missionary, since he knew the place, the culture, and the language. He was very successful in preaching the Gospel there. One legend tells of how he was able to convert people by miraculously banishing all snakes from the island.

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King

The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Blessed is the king of Israel!”
