ONE LOGIN: "Tony Blair wants to build upon One Login"

- Andrew Orlowski

Govt digital identify system One Login has quietly expanded across 250+ government services - with more planned

We say: FREEZE ONE LOGIN - expansion must not continue without proper parliamentary scrutiny and safeguards for privacy and civil liberties

Why is a system of this significance being allowed to scale to millions of people without full public debate & scrutiny?

You have no mandate to turn social media into ID checkpoint for all

🚨 Should you have to show your PASSPORT just to use social media?

📩 Tell your MP: NO!

The Government is reportedly considering ID checks FOR ALL to enforce their so-called “under-16 ban.”

📩 Tell your MP, NO to compulsory ID checks - use our free online tool to do it in seconds:

If you’re interested in social media that is harder to censor, take a look at Nostr.

Unlike Facebook or X, Nostr is not owned or controlled by one company. You control your identity, and your posts can be shared through many independent servers.

If one server blocks you or shuts down, you can simply use another - without losing your identity or followers.

It’s a simple idea that could have huge implications for freedom online: https://nostr.how/en/get-started
"Papers Please" to get online?

Andy Burnham didn't even fight a leadership contest, never mind a general election

He has NO MANDATE to push a massive intrusion that never featured in Labour's manifesto either

Be an action taker + fight this: https://togetherdeclaration.org/noidchecks/

Stand #together, this attack on privacy, anonymity and ultimately speech affects us all

ONE LOGIN: "Creating a kind of shadow Digital ID" (Samiksha)

Public opposition stopped the Government’s proposed national Digital ID scheme.

But GOV UK One Login continues to expand across 250+ government functions – including obligations people must fulfil, rather than merely optional “services”.

We are calling for an immediate freeze on further expansion, a proper independent review and a legal guarantee that nobody will be forced – or financially pressured – to use it.

It's appalling the government is considering forcing us to "show our papers" - passports or other ID - just to use social media.

✍️ USE OUR FREE TOOL TO TELL YOUR MP - NO:
https://togetherdeclaration.org/noidchecks/

The public has just rejected “Papers Please” Digital IDs. Now Andy Burnham - who never stood in a leadership contest, never mind a general election, and whose idea appeared in no manifesto - is pushing another extreme proposal.

42 children's safety organisations including the NSPCC oppose a so-called "social media ban", pointing out it could make things worse.

In any case supposed child safety is no blank cheque to destroy privacy and anonymity for all. Platforms already know vast amounts about users and already use AI to infer age.

Before forcing millions of adults through ID checkpoints, the government and platforms must explain why the data they already hold isn’t enough - and how being forced to upload government-issued ID could ever be necessary, proportionate, or indeed safe in itself.

Parents, not politicians, should decide for their children. Law-abiding adults should not have to prove their identity and risk data hacks of their highly sensitive information simply to use social media.

NET ZERO: C40 Cities, bankrolled by US billionaire Mike Bloomberg, works through city mayors to advance far-reaching Net Zero policies - including measures designed to restrict car use.

This allows policies never clearly put to voters in a national manifesto to spread from city to city, often without proper public debate or parliamentary scrutiny.

Andy Burnham signed a major C40 transport declaration as Greater Manchester Mayor.

His drive to transfer even more power to regional mayors should be examined in that context

ONE LOGIN:

You should not have to pay for refusing a government digital identity system

No one should be forced into a single digital identity system to access essential services - but up to 8 million company directors are already being pushed into it

The only free route is One Login - directors typically must pay £60 - £120 to avoid it

OFCOM: Ofcom was set up to regulate telecoms and broadcasting in 2003. Today, it has more than 1,600 staff and a remit that reaches deep into what we see and say online.

There may be a legitimate role for tightly limited technical and economic regulation. That does not give the state a right to control lawful expression or decide which opinions reach an audience.

Many would argue Ofcom’s online speech remit should be removed, and we should explicitly prohibit regulatory interference in the ranking or promotion of lawful news and opinion.
Minister Lisa Nandy says the Govt plans new law requiring major tech companies to build government-mandated “protections” directly into phones and tablets

Nandy wants to take state control beyond websites and platforms - and right into the devices you own

We say: stop digital ID and age verification systems that function as identity checks, plus device-level surveillance on apps and phones in the UK. Protect parental control and privacy. Protect the open internet.
