After Tony Blair's ID card scheme was defeated in 2010, principles were developed to protect people from being forced into a government identity system.

They remain published as the Government's Identity Assurance Principles - and the Government claims One Login complies with them.

The principles say people should not be compelled to use a government identity service, should have alternative ways to access services and should not be obliged to use an identity provider they did not choose - yet this seems to be EXACTLY what nearly 8m Company Directors and others have effectively been forced to do!

The principles also sit uneasily beside the Government's description of One Login as the future single front door to government services online, its statement that there are no plans to allow another identity provider, and the fact that even One Login's face-to-face identity-checking route creates a GOV UK digital identity.

The national Digital ID proposal was defeated - but the risk of “government by app” has not gone away

One Login, the GOV UK App and Wallet, digital credentials and identity checks could still grow into Digital ID in all but name

That is why The Pledge still matters

It is a simple but serious commitment to refuse Digital ID - whatever name it is given

A "social media ban" really just means "Papers Please to get online"

This kind of radical, intrusive change was NOT in your manifesto either

Nor did Andy Burnham even fight a general election!

You have no democratic mandate to ID the internet

"Airlines warn controversial Entry/Exit Scheme will cause travel misery without ability to resort to passport stamps"

EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) is now fully live, meaning fingerprints and facial scans are mandatory for all non‑EU travellers entering the Schengen Area - however France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland have been allowed to delay implementing the scheme

"Andy Burnham who made you God?"

A “social media ban for children” will ultimately mean ID checks for all of us before we can speak online

There is nothing safe about a society where ordinary people must be identified, monitored, and recorded simply to participate

DIGITAL ID: "It's really scary... as we've seen multiple data breaches" - (Ellie Hodges)

The national Digital ID plan was stopped after huge pushback - now we must make sure related platforms like One Login cannot recreate it piece by piece #together
ONE LOGIN:

OLIPAG, the independent watchdog group meant to check One Login’s privacy, was shut down after just four meetings, and the Government still hasn’t explained why

With One Login continuing to expand across 250+ government services, functions and processes – and millions of people being steered into it - they NEED to answer these BASIC questions

Why was independent scrutiny removed - and why hasn't it been restored?

VACCINE DAMAGE PAYMENT SCHEME:

"My wife was left disabled by the Covid jab, she deserved more compensation"

The Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme actually doesn't provide compensation per se - and it's certainly "not fit for purpose"
