Millions opposed national Digital ID - and Andy Burnham was right to scrap it

But the existing One Login system now demands serious scrutiny

It combines government accounts with identity verification and could provide much of the infrastructure for the same centralisation and tracking people feared

🎉 NEW SPEAKER ANNOUNCED FOR 7 NOVEMBER: CONNIE SHAW

Connie is External Affairs Officer at the Free Speech Union and a contributor to GB News. She appears on TV and radio, promoting the FSU’s campaigns and cases, and contributes to GB News’ digital output focusing on women’s rights, free speech at universities and multiculturalism.

Connie rose to prominence after she was permanently removed from her committee position at Leeds Student Radio due to her gender critical views. The University of Leeds also launched disciplinary action against her, accusing her of harassing a member of staff as a result of her expressing her gender critical views. The Free Speech Union supported her with a legal defence.

Minister Lisa Nandy says the Govt plans new law requiring major tech companies to build government-mandated “protections” directly into phones and tablets

Nandy wants to take state control beyond websites and platforms - and right into the devices you own

We say: stop digital ID and age verification systems that function as identity checks, plus device-level surveillance on apps and phones in the UK. Protect parental control and privacy. Protect the open internet.

🎉 NEW SPEAKER FOR 7 NOVEMBER: MAAJID NAWAZ

We’re delighted to announce that author, broadcaster and campaigner Maajid Nawaz will join us at Together’s 5th Anniversary Event in London!

Maajid’s extraordinary journey has taken him from Islamist activism and four years’ imprisonment in Egypt to becoming a prominent advocate for free speech, civil liberties and democratic values.

The co-founder of counter-extremism think tank Quilliam and a former LBC presenter, Maajid is the author of Radical: My Journey Out of Islamist Extremism. Today, through his independent platform Radical Media, he writes and broadcasts on Islam, censorship, institutional failure, geopolitics and threats to democratic freedom.

Sadiq Khan recently produced another study claiming ULEZ is a great success. A study that:

- Was partly funded by his own office

- Covers the entire "lockdown" period

- Comes from Queen Mary University - the same university where leaked emails showed Khan’s deputy, Shirley Rodrigues, asking academics to "reword" a previous study after it found "no evidence" of benefits to children’s lungs

Her complaint? "It reads like LEZ or similar have no impact at all."

Surely not, Mayor of London?!

FLASHBACK: "Digital ID is incredibly dangerous...the most important issue this country faces today"

This video from outside Labour conference last year - we'll be back in Liverpool on Sun 27 Sep, meeting 1pm, join us

Stopping the proposed national Digital ID scheme was vital - but related platforms still pose a risk

We must not let One Login, the GOV UK App / Wallet, and other systems morph into a Digital ID in all but name

Now Sadiq Khan wants new powers to ban wood-burning stoves.

This looks like a classic example of how billionaire-backed C40 Cities - which Khan co-chairs - operates:

Empower city mayors to impose extreme Net Zero policies locally, bypassing national debate and making them harder for the public to resist.

Andy Burnham signed a major C40 transport declaration as Greater Manchester Mayor.

His campaign to transfer still more power from Parliament to regional mayors such as Khan should be examined in that context.

"Running costs of vaccine damage scheme more than double amount paid to victims"

"The government scheme to support people injured by Covid jabs and other jabs has cost £83m to run since April 2022, new figures have revealed.

The amount spent on administration costs and medical assessments is more than double the £32m paid out in financial support to victims so far."

Andy Burnham announced the official Digital ID scheme would be scrapped after millions saw the danger in "Digital Papers Please"

At the same time, related platform One Login has quietly expanded across 200+ government obligations and services - with more planned

We call for an immediate freeze on One Login pending independent review by the National Audit Office – meaning no further rollout or expansion until that review is complete, its findings have been addressed and safeguards are in place.

ONE LOGIN: "We must have the right not to digitally verify in order to participate" (Alan Miller)

One Login has quietly expanded across 200+ government functions and processes - many of them obligations people must fulfil, rather than optional "services" - with more planned

We call for a clear statutory safeguard ensuring that participation in any digital identity system such as One Login remains strictly voluntary.
ONE LOGIN: What happens when the system that lets you deal with government gets it wrong?

If One Login suffers a major failure, millions could be left unable to access services and obligations

A credible backup system, including offline alternatives, is essential so people are not locked out of services they rely on

Has resilience been properly tested at national scale?

OFCOM’S NEW “CRISIS” RULES

Ofcom has introduced new measures requiring relevant social media platforms to have special protocols ready for a “crisis” - defined as an extraordinary situation involving a serious threat to public safety in the UK.

So who decides when we're in a “crisis”?

Officially, the platforms do - not Ofcom or the Government... but here's the catch:

Ofcom defines what counts as a crisis. Ofcom regulates the platforms. Ofcom scrutinises whether they comply with their legal duties. And Ofcom can contact individual platforms when it believes “specific risks” are emerging.

And we know this isn't hypothetical...

During the recent Belfast unrest, Ofcom said it was already “contacting individual providers where we believe there are specific risks” and reminding them of what it expected them to do.

Under the new measures, certain large platforms are also expected to maintain dedicated channels for crisis-related communications with law enforcement.

So imagine a controversial event unfolding
