This is a good day for young Europeans!

The European Parliament is calling for an EU law to ensure that all trainees are paid.

Next step - consultations with social partners.

We expect the legislative proposal from the European Commission by the end of this year.

Love wins! 🌈❤️🇪🇪

The Estonian Parliament voted to legalise same-sex marriages.
It's the second country in Eastern Europe and the first Baltic nation to have marriage equality, sending an important message to all member states.

Palju õnne Eesti!
Armastus võidab!

The EU and the ACP Countries have just decided to extend by 4 months the old Cotonou Agreement. We cannot accept that a single member state jeopardizes a partnership of over one hundred countries from four different continents. We will send a clear message to the European Council and to the government of Poland: let’s stop holding the post-Cotonou Agreement hostage. Let’s give us all a chance for a better future.

The EU has agreed on the major legislative package on capital requirements for banks 👏👏

It will enhance the resilience of EU banks to future economic shocks and help us achieve climate goals.

More from Jonás Fernández, EP rapporteur on the capital requirement legislation, and S&D spokesperson on economic and monetary affairs 💬👇

¡Adelante!

Enjoying your summer holiday? Thank a socialist!
Paid leave was not a reality some 90 years ago. Following strong labour movements and unshakeable stances taken by socialist leaders, countries started taking into account what we today enjoy as labour rights.

You're welcome 😉

Today we mark the Roma Holocaust Memorial Day.
Spare a moment of your busy day to think about the hundreds of thousands of people who lost their lives, but never their dignity.

We remember them. And strengthen our pledge to never let this happen again!

August 9, 2020 is the day Belarusian people said NO to Aleksandr Lukashenka’s dictatorship, only to have their hopes shattered by a sham election.

Today we stand in solidarity with those who wish to see Belarus a free, democratic country!

Young Europeans are not free labour!

We’ve always said that and we will keep fighting for paid internships, despite all opposition. No employer, no company, no politician, no government institution should ever take advantage of young people’s skills.

Unpaid internships must become a thing of the past!
Share our message on this International Youth Day if you agree!

50 years ago today, Augusto Pinochet led military officers to overthrow socialist President Salvador Allende and installed a military dictatorship in Chile.

Two decades of terror and brutal repression followed. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives and many more were kidnapped, jailed, tortured, disappeared.

Under Pinochet, who died unpunished in 2006, Chile went through its darkest and bloodiest era.

50 years later, we continue to pay tribute to President Allende and to all Chileans victims of the far right.

We remember.

__

On September 20 from 19 to 20, we will commemorate Salvador Allende, together with Senator Maria Isabel Allende Bussi, his daughter.

🔴Happening now in Strasbourg - the 🇪🇺Parliament debates decent, affordable housing for all, a much needed discussion that our Group has fought for.
Over the past 13 years, house prices have increased in 24 EU countries, while rent has increased in 26 EU countries.
We call for a strong European plan for social investment in housing.

Poland voted for change. The majority of people have sent a clear message – they do not want a national-conservative autocratic party like PiS in their government anymore!

This was clearly a vote for hope, for women’s rights, for equality, for a free media and a country that holds rule of law as its core value.

The country needs progressive forces to form a pro democratic and open government to take it out of its authoritarian drift.

Poland’s place is back at the heart of Europe!

Migration policy in Meloni's government boils down to "out of sight, out of mind".

Outsourcing asylum policy to third countries is wrong and will never deliver stable, long-term solutions.

Bilateral agreements undermine the EU's shared responsibility for migration and asylum.
