It was great welcoming our Ukrainian friends of SD Platform in Brussels, a few weeks after our first visit to Kyiv. We had a chance to discuss progressive politics in post-war Ukraine, as well as priorities for a fair and inclusive reconstruction on the country. Together we will work to help rebuild Ukraine's future, all the way to EU accession. Here's to a long and fruitful partnership!

Ми мали нагоду обговорити прогресивну політику в післявоєнній Україні, а також пріоритети для справедливого та інклюзивного відновлення країни. With the adoption of #CBAM, the European Parliament is set to take a significant step in its fight against climate change.

Tomorrow, the European Parliament is set to approve the Social Climate Fund, a critical component of the FitFor55 package designed to align climate action with social justice.   As part of its commitment in combating climate change and promoting social justice, the S&D Group has made significant contributions to this ambitious protective instrument to assist the most vulnerable citizens in transitioning to climate neutrality.

Faced with unprecedented global challenges such as climate emergency, the pandemic and war in Europe, the EU must avoid the trap of ‘power bloc logic’. Instead, it must define its own strategy towards China; one based on EU Open Strategic Autonomy, which ensures safe trade while defending multilateralism, highlighted Iratxe García at today’s plenary session in Strasbourg.
The S&D Group leader also underlined the fact that the EU should enhance dialogue with China to reduce risks and cooperate as much as possible, while clearly drawing red lines in defence of its values, principles and interests. For example, arms delivery to Russia and a forced change of status quo in Taiwan would be unacceptable.

Today we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, and its heroic Jewish fighters.

They knew victory was impossible. And survival unlikely. Yet, they stood up and fought for human dignity.

Today, President Iratxe Garcia met VP Frans Timmermans & commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius to tackle the future of Doñana. The regional government plan is a point of no return for its survival, against all Green Deal EU laws.

Our message: All institutions & administrations must work together to protect this world heritage.

We will join forces with our Polish social democratic party, Nowa Lewica, at an external group meeting taking place in Krakow from 2 to 5 May, 2023, to defend the rule of law and women’s rights – issues that go hand in hand and have been under attack by the PiS government. We will also discuss our progressive solutions to current EU challenges, including the social and economic damage caused by Putin's war on Ukraine.

✊Our proposal for an EU Charter on Women's Rights is adopted!

The entire EU must now follow suit, to make sure its provisions are respected by all member states.
We will push for a public debate, ahead of the 2024 elections.
