At a meeting of party MPs, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge proposed Sonia Gandhi's name as the chairperson of the parliamentary party.

Israel 🇮🇱 Added to UN's Child-Killing 'List of Shame'

The United Nations has included Israel and Hamas in its annual “list of shame,” (so-called “blacklist” ) part of a report documenting violations against children in armed conflicts.
This is the first time both entities have appeared on this list, which already features groups and nations such as Russia, the Islamic State, al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Afghanistan, Iraq, Myanmar, Somalia, Yemen, and Syria.

The inclusion of Israel is particularly notable, as it marks the first time a democratic country has been listed.

The Reserve Bank has constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of former MD and CEO of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), to examine various aspects of setting up a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Digital Payments Intelligence Platform.RBI is mulling to set up a Digital Payments Intelligence Platform to mitigate payment fraud risks. The Committee is expected to give its recommendations within two months.

⭕️ On 7 June 2024, The Survey on Household Consumption Expenditure released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
Key Findings:-
❇️ The average monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE) in rural sector has risen more sharply by 40%, while the MPCE in urban sector has risen 33%
❗️Table: Average Monthly Spending per Person (in 2011-12 prices)
Area 2011-12 2022-23 Change
Rural Rs. 1430 Rs. 2008 +40%
Urban Rs. 2630 Rs. 3510 +33%

❇️ People in rural areas are spending more money, and this spending is growing faster than in urban areas.
❇️ While city dwellers still spend more, the difference between rural and urban spending is shrinking.
❗️The difference between the urban and rural MPCE has fallen from 84 percent in 2011-12 to 75 percent in 2022-23, the survey on Household Consumption Expenditure: 2022-23 showed.

The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) 2024.
It uses 58 performance indicators across 11 issue categories to rank 180 countries on climate change performance, environmental health, and ecosystem vitality.
Key Highlights:
👉 Estonia secured the top position, while Vietnam secured bottom.
🌳 India ranked 176th rank, highlighting serious environmental challenges. While India showed some progress in climate change mitigation, it scored poorly in air quality and sanitation.
👉 The EPI highlights the challenge of "paper parks," protected areas on paper that are not effectively managed for conservation, posing a threat to international biodiversity commitments.
👉 Oman made a significant jump to 50th position globally, up from 149th in 2022, due to increased biodiversity sites and conservation efforts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office for a 3rd successive term on Sunday (10 June), along with 71 other members of his Council of Ministers.
He is the 2nd PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to be elected for a term in a row.


61 Ministers are from the BJP and 11 are from its alliance partners in the NDA; 24 States get representation; 43 Ministers are third-term MPs; 27 Ministers are from the OBCs, 10 from the SCs, and five from STs.

Bangladesh to Import Hydro-Electricity from Bhutan
Bangladesh Prime Minister and her Bhutanese counterpart met in New Delhi during the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bangladesh and Bhutan are keen to enhance their relations, especially in the energy sector.
Bangladesh wants to import hydroelectricity from Bhutan through India and the matter has been discussed with India.
This requires a tripartite agreement between the three countries. Both countries also expressed their interest in strengthening their ties in other areas as well.

Bhutan has a special place in the hearts of all Bangladeshis as it had first recognized Bangladesh as an independent nation after the 1971 Liberation War, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

Bye-Election To 13 Assembly seat Of 7 States on July 10.

The Election Commission has announced the schedule of bye-election to 13 Assemblies constituencies of 7 States. Of them, 4 Assembly constituencies are in West Bengal, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Uttarakhand and 1 each in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.
The polling for these assembly Constituencies will be held on 10th of next month and counting will take place on 13th of July.

India Welcomes 5 countries joining BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa)

On 10 June, 2024 India wholeheartedly welcomed Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia joining the BRICS as their representatives attended for the first time a key meeting of the grouping hosted by Russia.
Senior diplomat Dammu Ravi led the Indian delegation at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, in western Russia.
Notable, In January 2024 BRICS bloc has announced induction of these 5 nations.
Now Grouping has become a 10-nation body now.

ISRO Releases Stunning Images of Sun Captured By Aditya L1 during a major geomagnetic storm in May,2024.
The two remote sensing payloads, namely the Solar UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) and the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), along with other payloads, captured these images from the Lagrange point in space.
The images released by ISRO clearly show magnetically active regions with large solar flares on the Sun’s surface. The solar emissions depict the relative brightness of sunspots, umbra, penumbra, and plages.

The Aditya-L1 spacecraft was launched by PSLV-C57 on 2 September,2023.
It reached its designated orbit on 6 January 2024 ( after 126 days)

Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima Goes Missing.

In Malawi, an aircraft carrying its Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing on 10 June,2024.The craft was carrying the 51-year-old vice president, his wife and eight other individuals.
It left the capital, Lilongwe, but failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport, 45 minutes later.

Dasu hydropower project: Pakistan
The World Bank has approved an additional loan of USD 1 billion for cash-strapped Pakistan to support the China-backed Dasu hydropower project in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The Dasu hydropower project, situated approximately 300 km north of Islamabad in the unruly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is being developed by China.

Colleges And Universities To Admit Students Twice A Year: UGC

The UGC has taken a policy decision to allow Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to admit students twice a year, from the next academic year.
Currently, UGC Regulations allow admissions in one academic session in a year.
According to UGC, this will benefit many students, such as those who missed admission due to a delay in the announcement of board results, health issues, or personal reasons.
Also, it will help students maintain motivation since they do not have to wait one full year to be admitted if they miss admission in the current cycle.
