With the #CharDhamYatra beginning Sunday, the portals of #Gangotri and #Yamunotri temples are scheduled to open, with authorities introducing new entry conditions at Gangotri even as Yamunotri remains open to all devotees.

For the first time, the Gangotri Mandir Samiti has mandated the consumption of panchgavya — a mixture of cow urine, dung, ghee, milk and curd for entry into the shrine. Chairperson Dharmendra Semwal said the step was aimed at “weeding out non-believers” and ensuring that only those with “unshaken spirituality” visit.

Gangotri MLA Suresh Singh Chauhan said the decision reflects religious sentiment, adding that “Gaumutra is holy for us” and linked the measure to preserving the sanctity of the shrine. Earlier, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee had also announced restrictions on entry of non-Hindus across multiple temples, with #Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal backing such measures.
