Both face serious charges: Amritpal under NSA in Assam, and Rashid under UAPA in Delhi's Tihar jail Even if in prison, election winners still carry the constitutional mandate to serve as parliamentarians. .

✅What happens next?

Taking oath as parliamentarians is a constitutional mandate, even for those in prison.

✅ While not explicitly stated in the Constitution, there are precedents of jailed lawmakers being granted temporary parole to take oath .
Examples, include AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who took oath as Rajya Sabha MP in March , and Akhil Gogoi, who took oath as Assam MLA in 2021. In 1977, George Fernandes was elected from prison and released before taking oath.

✅ Lawmakers' Duties (Even When Jailed):

1) Taking oath is a privilege, not a right: special permission, not bail.
2) Must inform Speaker of absence: To avoid losing their seat. Article101(4) of the constitution states if an MP is absent for over 60days from all the meetings without permission, then her/his seat would be declared vacant.
4) Court permission is needed for participation: To attend or vote in sessions.
Disqualification only for serious crimes: 2+ year sentence for conviction.

It’s official, Narendra Modi will be sworn in as Prime Minister for a 3rd consecutive term on Sunday (9 June) at 6 pm.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) stands at 293 after Tuesday’s result whereas the Opposition’s INDIA bloc is at 234 seats.
Of these, the BJP is at 240, while the Congress saw its tally reach 100 on Thursday night.

✅ Eminent wildlife field biologists and pioneers of wildlife conservation in the Country, A.J.T. Johnsingh passed away in Bengaluru on Friday after a brief illness. He was 78.
✅ His pioneering work in elephants in the early 1980s was instrumental for the Government of India to formulate Project Elephant. He also conducted an international conference bringing elephant experts across the world to Mudhumalai wildlife sanctuary.

Four Indian students who were studying at the Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University located in Veliky Novgorod, Russia, drowned in an unfortunate incident in the Volkhov river. But fifth Indian student was saved from drowning and is presently receiving medical attention. The five students involved in the accident belong to Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.

CII's Report on FDI
✅ A report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the High Commission of India in the UK reveals that Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi are the top 3 states in India for foreign direct investment (FDI) into the UK.
✅ In 2023, Maharashtra accounted for 20% of FDI, followed by Karnataka (12%) and Delhi (8.6%).
✅ The top 10 states, which also include Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, make up 78% of total FDI from India into the UK.

Nepal Parliament approves ratification for Framework Agreement related to International Solar Alliance (ISA).

✅ The House of Representatives has passed a proposal to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which will help increase the use of solar power in the country and combat the impacts of climate change.
✅ The ISA was conceived as a joint effort by India and France to mobilise efforts against climate change through the deployment of solar energy solutions and announced on the sidelines of the 21st COP21 to the UNFCCC at Paris in 2015.
