In 2004, the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) approached the Supreme Court seeking measures to protect the 'right to secrecy' of voters who choose not to vote.

In 2013, the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India to introduce NOTA to protect the secrecy of voters' choices. Before NOTA, voters who chose not to vote would have their names recorded, violating their right to secrecy.
But what happens if NOTA receives the highest number of votes in a constituency? Currently, the second most successful candidate wins, but a petition is pending in the Supreme Court to make elections null and void if NOTA gets the most votes.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the first human death from the H5N2 variant bird flu in Mexico. The 59-year-old man in Mexico City died from a rare strain of bird flu, H5N2, never before found in humans. He had chronic kidney failure and other underlying ailments.
H5N2 is a subtype of the avian influenza virus primarily affecting birds. The virus can spread from birds to humans through direct contact with infected birds or their droppings. Symptoms of H5N2 in humans can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, and fatigue.
