UPI Hits All-Time High in May with 14 Billion Transactions! 🚀

India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) continues its meteoric rise, setting a new record in May with a staggering 14.04 billion transactions worth 20.45 trillion rupees. 🤯
Key Highlights:
1. Massive Growth: 6% increase in transaction volume and 4% increase in value compared to April.
2. Year-on-Year Surge: 49% increase in volume and 39% increase in value compared to May 2023.
3. Highest Ever: May numbers mark the highest ever in terms of both value and volume since UPI's launch in 2016.
4. IMPS Also Up: Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) saw a slight increase, up 1.45% in volume and 2.36% in value compared to April.

🚨 Election After effect: Toll Hike Alert! 🚨
🛣️The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased toll taxes across the country by 5%.💰
🗓️ The new rates are effective from *June 3rd, 2024*, impacting over 900 toll plazas nationwide. 😲
🚗 Single journeys for cars and light vehicles will cost ₹150, while round trips will be ₹230. Mini buses and small vehicles will also see a slight increase. 🚌
🚚 Trucks and buses will face a ₹15 hike per trip, while heavy commercial vehicles will see a ₹15-₹25 increase. 🚛
💰 This hike is due to increased road traffic and the expansion of India's expressway network, with a total length of approximately 1,46,000 kilometres, making it the 2nd-largest road network globally. The new rates will be in effect *until April 31st, 2025*.

Ex-BrahMos engineer gets life imprisonment for spying for Pakistan’s ISI 🚨😱
The Nagpur district court on June 3 handed life imprisonment to former BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. engineer Nishant Agarwal 🧑‍💼 under the Official Secrets Act for spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI 🇵🇰.

He will also have to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 14 years and was also fined ₹3,000 💰.
He was convicted under section 235 of the Criminal Procedure Code for an offense punishable under section 66 (f) of the IT Act 💻 and various sections of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 🕵️‍♂️.

Agarwal was arrested in a joint operation by the military intelligence and Anti-terrorism squads👮‍♂️ of U.P and Maharashtra in 2018.

The Agrawal was booked under Indian Penal Code and the stringent OSA ⚖️. He was accused of leaking sensitive technical information 🤐 to Pakistan's ISI 🇵🇰.
BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between the India 🚀 and Russia 🇷🇺.
