Cross-chain protocol Maya Protocol halted its network after an attacker exploited six separate software flaws to drain Bitcoin and other assets, totaling roughly $1.4 million.

The exploit chained six distinct bugs together to extract funds, according to the protocol. The attack triggered a sharp drop in Maya's native CACAO token as news of the breach spread.

Watch for Maya Protocol's post-mortem detailing the specific vulnerabilities and any plans for network restart or reimbursement.

πŸ› Deutsche Bank Calls Treasury Buyback Dollar Negative

Deutsche Bank says the US Treasury's surprise move to sharply increase buybacks of long-end debt is financial repression, structurally negative for the dollar regardless of Fed policy.

The bank cites four points: the move echoes Japan's discouragement of currency intervention; it pairs with urging foreign central banks to use the FIMA repo facility; if Treasury prices can't fall naturally, the dollar absorbs the adjustment instead; and it resembles the Fed's operation twist, requiring more bill issuance that could force offsetting Fed tightening.

Deutsche Bank warns that if Fed Chair Kevin Warsh doesn't acknowledge this easing effect, it adds further dollar pressure.

πŸ› RBI Holds Rate at 5.25%, Flags Inflation Risk

The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee unanimously kept its repo rate at 5.25% at its August 3–5, 2026 meeting, holding a neutral stance. Inflation rose to 4.4%, while the RBI raised its 2026-27 GDP growth forecast to 6.7%.

Minutes show members agreed the inflation rise is mainly supply-driven, via food and fuel prices. Views diverged on caution: Poonam Gupta said a rate hike "could become necessary later in the year" if inflation stays elevated, while others stressed the shock's temporary nature.

The next policy move depends on whether supply shocks fade or spread into wages and broader inflation expectations.

πŸ› Investors Trim Bets on US, UK Rate Hikes

Investors have scaled back expectations for further interest rate increases from the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England, following weaker economic data out of both economies.

The pullback in rate-hike expectations came despite a rally in oil prices, which typically raises inflation concerns and supports the case for tighter monetary policy.

🧩 Aave Debt Concentrated in Few Large Positions

Ethereum recorded its biggest single-day move in two years on Aug. 20, an 18% swing, yet it did not trigger a liquidation cascade on Aave. Analysis shows roughly half of Aave's debt sits within just 9% of positions.

The concentration stems from a staking correlation trade, where large positions cluster around correlated staked-ETH assets. That packs much of the debt into a small set of positions, leaving them exposed to unwinding if a future move hits that cluster directly.

What to watch next: how these staking-correlated positions behave in future large ETH swings, and whether exposure to this small set of positions gets adjusted.

🚨 BounceBit to Shut Layer 1 After 286.5M BB Exploit

An attacker exploited an authorization flaw in BounceBit's Evmos-based blockchain to move roughly 286.5 million BB (about $3 million) from nine accounts without compromising private keys or wallets. BounceBit halted block production about 40 minutes later.

BounceBit will permanently shut down its standalone Layer 1 and reissue BB as a BEP-20 token on BNB Chain, using a pre-attack snapshot excluding the unauthorized transfers. It cited Evmos being discontinued in May, saying a standalone Layer 1 is "no longer the most effective way to serve our users." It is working with exchanges to reconcile balances.
