The "first Black Briton" was actually a White woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, as per new genetic data.

The claim about the skeletonโ€™s African origins was made in Prof David Olusogaโ€™s documentary series, which told the story of the โ€œenduring relationship between Britain and people whose origins lie in Africaโ€.

In episode one, the Beachy Head woman was presented as โ€œsub-Saharan African in originโ€, and the programme featured a reconstruction of her features, with dark skin, hair and eyes.

In the programme, Prof Olusoga remarked that โ€œsheโ€™s a black Britonโ€, while Jo Seaman, an expert archaeologist, explained that her African origins and the age of her remains were likely to have made her the โ€œearliest black Britonโ€.

Another academic hoax debunked.
