Cape Town’s water crisis and rapid urban growth are putting increasing pressure on the South African city’s resources and planning. To address the housing shortage, the government supports new developments, including on the Philippi Horticultural Area. But farmers and activists warn that building on this land could endanger the aquifer that helps keep the city’s water supply stable.
.
The documentary Capturing Water investigates the roots of Cape Town’s 2018 water crisis through the lens of three activists fighting for water justice. It reveals how market-driven policies deepened inequality and environmental damage, urging more sustainable water management.
