Israel has announced it is cutting ties with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres after the global body added the country to the “blacklist of sexual violence in conflict zones.”
“Israel has decided to sever all ties with the Secretary-General’s Office and will wait until a new UN Secretary-General is appointed,” the Israeli foreign minister said on X.
Earlier today, the United Nations added Israel to its blacklist of parties accused of committing sexual violence in conflict zones in the “Secretary-General’s Annual Report on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.”
The listing comes amid a mounting body of evidence compiled by rights organisations, media outlets, and UN investigators.
Hundreds of testimonies from Palestinian detainees held in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and inside Israeli prisons have detailed accounts of torture and sexual abuse during arrest, interrogation, and detention.
The UN blacklist carries significant reputational and diplomatic consequences for listed parties.

A group of US activists were arrested after attempting to block an arms shipment to Israel near New York City.
“Actionists blockaded the road using an RV and a truck with a boat hitched to its carriage, fastening themselves to the vehicles and to one another using ‘sleeping dragon’-style PVC devices,” Port Workers and Communities for Palestine said in a statement.
Democracy Now reported that at least 10 protesters were arrested.
“These shipments are only a handful of thousands of shipments by ZIM & Maersk of weapons, weapons components, armored and tactical vehicles, etc. that have already been transported from the Port of Elizabeth,” organisers said in a statement.
“We know it is our responsibility to disrupt the flow of arms that fuels the genocidal US-‘Israeli’ war machine. We will continue to show up in protest, calling on port workers to refuse the movement of this weapons shipment,” they added.

After announcing an expansion of its operations, the Israeli military says it carried out more than 150 strikes across Lebanon in 24 hours, including in the capital, Beirut.
The Israeli military, which has entered Lebanese sovereign territory and seeks to occupy around 10 percent of Lebanon, declared on Wednesday that all areas south of the Zahrani River—roughly 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the border—are “combat zones”. The army told residents to evacuate an area of about 2,000 square kilometres.
Since March 2, Israel has been conducting an expanded offensive in Lebanon, killing at least 3,200 people, injuring over 9,600, and displacing more than 1.6 million people, according to official figures. Israel has repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure, health centres, journalists, and paramedics.

A student graduating at the University of California, Berkeley, had his diploma withheld from him, video shows, until he put aside the Palestinian flag he came onstage with.
Video of the incident shows students jeering and booing as the student is told, “You cannot display flags here.”
The student then hands his flag to someone, before walking back across the stage where he is finally handed his scroll.
The protester was identified as Hesham by a local chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement. He said he is against the university’s ties to Israeli companies.
“This small act that I took waving the Palestinian flag, and the repression that followed it, is a small example of the UC system’s wider complicity towards the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” he said.
“I’m demanding that UC Berkeley cuts ties with genocide, cuts ties with companies that are fueling this ongoing genocide,” he said.
