Activists staged a sit-in demonstration inside Australia’s Parliament House on Tuesday to protest Israel’s treatment of members of the Global Sumud Flotilla and to call on the Australian government to impose sanctions on Israel, local media reported.

Demonstrators gathered in the Marble Foyer, kneeling with their hands behind their backs in a symbolic gesture intended to portray the detention of flotilla activists by Israeli authorities, ABC News reported.

They shouted “Sanction Israel!” and accused Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong of being “complicit in genocide” as security officers escorted them from the building.

Several activists, including Australians, have alleged mistreatment by Israeli authorities, with accusations ranging from beatings to sexual assault during detention.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, the former chief of the International Criminal Court said that Mossad repeatedly pressured her to drop an investigation on war crimes in Palestine.

Fatou Bensouda, who led the international body from 2012 to 2021, said a two men with ties to Israel came to her house in The Hague after she opened the investigation in 2015 in order to intimidate her.

“I felt left alone. I felt unsupported,” she said.

Bensouda also said that Mossad repeatedly pressured her to drop the investigation during official meetings with the chief of the Israeli spy agency.

“What was clear what that he didn’t want the investigation on Palestine to go on,” Bensouda said.

“Also there are even authorities (of some countries) that have appealed to me. ‘You really need to stop, this is going very far’. You could be harmed or you could be killed or family members could be harmed in some ways. But to me, it was out of the question,” Bensouda added.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into a case involving interference by a company linked to Israel in French local elections, following accusations from far left candidates that they were subjected to disinformation and smear campaigns.

The investigation focuses on complaints filed by three members of La France Insoumise, Sebastien Delogu from Marseille, Francois Piquemal from Toulouse, and David Guiraud from Roubaix.

Delogu said that billboards bearing his name and a QR code appeared in the streets leading to false rape accusations, while Piquemal reported social media pages spreading rumors against him and the leaking of his account passwords. The three politicians said the targeting was linked to their support for Palestine.

— “And if training was ongoing and the call to prayer was heard, he would ask the coach to stop training so the players could pray.”
