I was configuring my alacritty terminal. I was choosing themes for my terminal from Alacritty Themes. I was using nixified version of the themes using https://github.com/alexghr/alacritty-theme.nix.

The Problem: Alacritty recently (in 0.13.0) switched their configuration lang from Yaml to TOML. but the latest alacritty terminal in nixpkgs is in 0.12.0 which means it still generates yaml files. The alacritty Themes nix package has been updated to alacritty's latest version so it generates toml files. So, everytime I tried to add a theme, alacritty was giving me errors that it can not parse the toml file mnamn.

The Solution: Here comes overriding. As u can see above using Attributes Overriding I was able to change the version of alacritty to 0.13.0 which makes it compatible with alacritty themes.

TLDR, alacritty 0.13.0 wasn't available in nixpkgs, and @jossephus used nix overrides to add it to his config. This just shows the level of extensibility nix offers.
