Someone taught you this fold, or someone taught the person who taught you. That is nearly always how it goes. No name is attached to it, and none should be invented.
It sits at the root of a large family: from it you can reach the crane, the flapping bird, and a long list of variations that share its skeleton. That shared skeleton is why we call it an ancestor rather than a model.

A door in an old house does not swing so much as decide. You push it, and for the first quarter of its travel nothing happens except a shift in the air; then the weight finds its axis and the whole panel moves as one thing.
What I liked was the broadness of the hinge — the sense that the turning was not concentrated in a small pin but spread across the width of the wood. This fold looks for that same delay.
Unlike the Atlas folds, this one is not traditional. Our software designed it and our gates verified it: 49 creases, 9 interior vertices, Kawasaki 9/9, Maekawa 9/9. Every measurement is on the page.
