🔔Bloomberg reports that New York's wealthiest residents opposed Mayor Zhran Mamdani following a proposed real estate tax.

In April, Governor Katie Hawkel and Mayor Mamdani proposed taxing second homes valued over $5 million. The plan faced criticism from the state's elite and Donald Trump, who called it incorrect.

The mayor's press release, announcing the first rent tax, erroneously cited a $238 million Midtown penthouse bought by "Ken Griffith" instead of Citadel founder Ken Griffin. This error united Wall Street leaders and wealthy residents against the policy; even Democrat-leaning billionaires doubted the mayor's approach.
