I came to realize this back in high school. My best friend and I discussed it with our history teacher and determined it couldn’t possibly be the main reason for the war. Too many things didn’t add up.
Kind of funny a couple of teenagers from the west coast of Canada contemplating a 19th century war that happened across the border and on the other side of the continent which only tangentially touched on the British North American colonies that were to become Canada. We also asked some questions about another event from another war and their were things we felt didn’t fully add up about it either, but unfortunately that didn’t go as far and the indoctrination was really getting strong that it diverted us from coming to more conclusions.
