Telegram for Android has been updated to version 9.5.

Power Saving Mode
• Users have the opportunity to disable certain animations and visual effects in the settings.
• Disabling effects will save battery power and improve performance on less powerful devices.
• The power saving mode can be set to turn on automatically when the battery charge drops below a specified value.
• In the iOS app, you can also disable background chat updates, but Telegram recommends not doing this.
• For the application on Android, the optimal settings are selected by default.
• You can switch to power saving mode or turn off autoplay, animations or effects separately in the menu Settings > Power saving.

Read Time in Small Groups
• In groups of up to 100 participants, you can now see the time when the messages were read by each of the participants.
• In addition, now you can see the time when the reactions were delivered.

Granular Playback Speed
• Now videos, podcasts, voice and video messages can be played at any speed from 0.2x to 2.5x using the slider.
• To fine-tune the speed of voice and video messages, hold the playback speed icon.
• To change the video playback speed, just click on the icon with three dots and select "Speed" from the menu that appears.

Auto-Send Invite Links
• If, when you try to invite a user, it turns out that he has forbidden it, you can immediately send him a message with an invitation link.
• To choose who can add you to groups directly, just go to Settings > Privacy > Groups & Channels.

Power Saving Mode

• Users now have the option to disable vibrant animations and unobtrusive visual effects in settings to save battery power and improve performance by less powerful devices.

• Power saving mode can be set to automatically turn on when your battery reaches a certain percent.

• iOS users can also use power saving settings to limit background updates — although we do not recommend doing this, because you will see your app “Updating…” a lot more often.

• Telegram for Android has the optimal default settings, based on manual testing of Telegram on more than 200 different device models, so that the messenger is as convenient as possible to use on any of them.

Telegram fights account hijacking

Over the past few months, the activity of scammers trying to steal Telegram user accounts has increased significantly.

Over the past month, our readers have reported that they sometimes get kicked out of their accounts, and after re-logging in, they find that all messages sent by them in private chats in the last few hours or days are deleted for both interlocutors.

We suppose that these measures may be an attempt by the Telegram platform to combat account hijacking.

@tginfoen strongly recommend to subscribers to keep their account information up to date:
1. Do not keep accounts on SIM cards that are not accessible. If you do not have access to a SIM card with an account phone number, then you have a risk or losing access to this account at any time. Recall: Telegram allows you to change the phone number of account without losing chats and contacts.
2. Remember your cloud password or check access to the email specified to recover it.
3. If your account has been switched to authorization by e-mail then make sure that you have access to the corresponding e-mail box.
4. Use local passcode on your smartphone and especially in Telegram Desktop: it encrypts local date stored on your your PC and prevents using this data by intruders even if they steal it.

Results of the Call UI contest for Android and iOS developers

The goal of this contest was to implement an updated design for audio and video calls in Telegram for Android or Telegram for iOS based on provided layouts (Android / iOS).

The prize pool of $100,000 was shared among all 49 developers who took part in the competition (of which 21 presented their work on Android, and 28 on iOS). Detailed information about the winners, their awards and the results of their work can be viewed on the official channel of the Telegram contests.

Submissions were judged based on the overall aesthetics of the app, the consistency of the submissions with the layouts and design elements provided, the smoothness of the animation, and the overall stability of the app.

Conducted competitions are the only way to join the messenger development team. Therefore, several winners will soon learn from Telegram not only about their payments, but also about the opportunity to continue working in the project.

The Norwegian Parliament Bans Telegram from Government Devices

The Norwegian parliament (aka The Storting) banned the installation of Telegram (and TikTok) on government-owned devices that are connected to the government’s internal infrastructure. The decision was made after a recommendation from the NSM, The Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

It is worth noting that The Ministry of Justice and Public Security initially mentioned Telegram as a “Russian-owned” app, but then rephrased it as “an app with a Russian origin”.

They also advised to immediately remove the apps on devices that have them installed.

In the recent days, there have been various reports here and there regarding the integration of ChatGPT, a large language model by OpenAI, into Telegram.

However, a close source to Telegram has denied all of these rumors and has stated that the developers have no intention to integrate ChatGPT into the platform.

Ability to share a folder

In the beta version of Telegram for Android, you can now share folder-based collections of your chats with other users.

Some Features:
• You can set several links for your folder with different sets of groups and channels that are included there initially.
• Private chats and bots cannot be shared.
• You can share access to a private group or channel with users only if you have administrator rights there with the ability to manage invitation links.
• You can only share folders that do not include chats by type (Contacts, Non-Contacts, Channels, Groups, Bots) and that do not contain excluded chats.
• If a folder author adds new groups or channels to the same collection that a user has used, that user will be prompted to join them.
• You can share a folder with others not only using a t.me/addlist link, but also via a QR code.
• Users without Telegram Premium can create links for only two folders, and with a subscription — for twenty folders. The limit also applies to the number of collections that you can add to your account.

Note:
• The application does not warn the user against accidentally adding a private group or channel to a collection.
• If the collection contains a simple group, then after creating a link to the folder, it is automatically converted into a supergroup with all the ensuing consequences.

The ability to share folders is already available to all users who have installed the current Beta version of Telegram.

Bot Usernames on Fragment

Recent changes in the client-side source code of the Fragment platform which we recently discovered, indicate the possibility of being able to assign usernames purchased on the Fragment platform to bots. There might also be an extra fee.

Earlier, changes in the translation strings of Telegram for macOS indicated the possibility of being able to assign multiple usernames to a single bot.

Unigram on Telegram's Official Platforms

The desktop client Unigram was introduced on Telegram's official Translations platform. Now anyone can help translate the application's interface into their native language, improve existing translations, or create their own localization.

Futhermore, Unigram is also available on the Bugs and Suggestions platform, where users can publicly report issues and errors to developers, as well as leave suggestions for improving the application and its functionality.

Telegram for Android, iOS, MacOS, and Unigram were updated to version 9.6. Telegram Desktop was updated to version 4.8.

Share chat folders
• Create invitation links for chat folders to quickly share dozens of chats with other users.
• Users can add a folder and join all the chats in it with a single tap.
• Multiple invitation links can be created for each folder with access to different sets of chats.
• You can add any public chats to folders as well as those private groups and channels where you have administrator rights to invite other users.
• If new chats are added to the public folder and the invitation link is updated, participants will be prompted to join the added chats.
• You can create a folder under Settings > Chat Folders.

Custom Wallpapers
• Use your favorite photos or color combinations as the wallpaper for individual private chats.
• Your chat partner can view the new wallpaper and set it to the same or choose a different one, if desired.
• To set a custom wallpaper for your chat, simply click on the three-dot icon and select "Change wallpaper" from the dropdown that appears.

Better Bots
• Bots with web apps can now be launched from any chat type.
• If bot supports this feature, the web app will be accessible via a direct link or by mentioning the bot's name in any chat on Telegram (inline mode).
• Web applications launched by a group can now offer collaborative or game modes to its members.

Improved Interfaces
• To postpone sending a message until the chat partner is online, just click the send button.
• When creating a group, it is no longer necessary to immediately add members to it.
• On recent iPhones, a new animation has been added while swiping a user, group, or channel profile (the profile picture will slide up and hide in the dynamic island area).

Shared Chat Folders

• You can now create invitation links for chat folders to quickly share dozens of chats with other users—for example, by sending them a thematic collection of channels.

• Recipients of such link can add the folder to their account with a single touch and join all the chats in it.

• If a user wants to remove a folder, they can also quickly leave all the chats at once.

• Users can customize the folder installed via the link to their liking: rename it, add their own chats, or delete the ones you suggested.

• Several invitation links can be created for each folder, giving specific access to different sets of chats.

• When creating a link, you can select the necessary chats and give it a unique name to avoid confusion with different chat collections within the folder.

• Any public chats can be added to shared folders, as well as private groups and channels where you have administrative rights to invite other users.

• Through a folder link, users can immediately join all the chats in it, even those that usually require application requests to join (so only administrators can add public chats with join requests to shared folders).

• Personal chats and chats with bots cannot be shared via folder links, but users can later add them to the folder themselves.

• When you add new chats to a shared folder, they do NOT automatically appear for other users who have installed that folder via the link.

• Participants will be invited to join new chats only if you update their invitation link.

• Any Telegram user can have up to 2 shared folders, each containing up to 100 chats. With a Telegram Premium subscription, users have access to 20 shared folders, each containing up to 200 chats, and up to 100 different invitation links for each folder.

Choosing wallpapers for private chats

• Now you can use your favorite photos or color combinations as wallpapers for private chats.

• Your partner can view new wallpapers and, if desired, set the same ones or choose others.

• To set individual wallpapers in any personal chat, simply click on the icon with three dots and select the "Change Wallpaper" option from the menu that appears.
