This morning Ford and Apple made a huge announcement, but there is a bigger industry story hiding inside that announcement. This article covers just that at https://www.torquenews.com/1/ford-s-affordable-ev-about-premium-software-and-apple-becomes-part-car-redefining-what-ford-30k
Ford’s affordable $30K EV is really about premium software, and Apple is becoming part of the car. See Jim Farley's statement, and how the community reacts to it.
Note that this announcement makes Ford's upcoming $30,000 EV feel like a $60,000 EV truck. And Ford chose Apple Maps instead of building its own navigation.
Would embedded Apple Maps and next generation BlueCruise be enough to get you into a $30,000 Ford EV, or does the platform still need to prove itself on range and real world reliability first? And if you already drive a Ford with BlueCruise or CarPlay today, how has that software experience shaped your loyalty to the brand? Let us know in the comments below.

Elon Musk just gave the Tesla Semi's self-driving plan a real timeline, and it hinges on data the company has already been collecting for years without most people noticing.
Here is the full story and the video https://www.torquenews.com/1/how-will-tesla-teach-40-ton-semi-drive-itself-elon-musk-just-revealed-plan
Here's a question worth sitting with as you read this: if Tesla is still working out the kinks in Full Self-Driving for a car that weighs 4,000 pounds, how does it plan to hand the wheel over to a rig that weighs twenty times that much? Keep that in your head as we go, because the answer is not what most people expect, and I want to hear your take on it in the comments once you're done.

China isn't just making too many EVs. It's creating a problem every automaker from Tesla to Toyota to Ford may soon have to deal with. The biggest threat to the global auto industry may not be tariffs or interest rates. It may be millions of electric cars with nowhere to go.

Most people still believe you can't tow a camper long distance with an electric truck. Then one GMC Sierra EV owner hitched up a 33-foot camper, drove 375 miles, and arrived with 48% battery remaining. The hidden story isn't just the number, but it explains why this happened.
For years, towing has been the biggest argument against electric trucks. Then one GMC Sierra EV owner towed a 33-foot camper for 375 miles and still arrived with 48% battery remaining. The numbers are impressive, but the real story is how he made it work—and what it says about where electric trucks are headed. Electric vehicles have already solved the "Can it tow?" question. The new question is: "Can you actually live with it while towing?" The first-time driver completed two loaded runs with workout equipment, furniture, and boxes. The EV9 stayed stable and strong, while backing around corners exposed the harder lesson. https://www.torquenews.com/17998/kia-ev9-gt-line-towed-612-u-haul-trailer-60-miles-power-was-easy-part
Note that the biggest surprise wasn't that the Kia EV9 could tow a trailer. It was discovering that towing has stopped being the hardest part of owning an electric tow vehicle. The real challenge begins after you hook up the trailer.

When Ferrari unveiled Luce many people were sceptical of its design. Very sceptical. But apparently It has already hit its 2026 sales target for the Luce EV just two months after its unveiling. Ferrari has sold 500 units for about $320 million. How did Ferrari do this? Here https://www.torquenews.com/1/how-ferrari-hit-2026-sales-target-unlikeable-luce-ev-within-two-months-going-600000-each
Anthony DiFede, who claims to be a current Ferrari owner, wrote under EV blogger Sawyer Merritt's post on the subject and said, "Sawyer, as a current Ferrari owner since 1995, I would say 95+ percent of all these orders placed are from Ferrari clients that are trying to climb the ladder for future hard to get cars."

Tesla's loyal Cybertruck customers, who have growing families ask a 3-row Cybertruck from Elon Musk on X and share this image. Torque News wrote about it in 2025 that this is going to be needed as 3-row SUV demand, like the Kia Telluride and Honda Palisade picks up. Do you think the 3-row Cybertruck may be more popular than the current Cybertruck? What if I told you one of Tesla's most important factories was suddenly rumored to be on the chopping block? It sounds almost unbelievable. Yet for a brief moment, reports suggested Tesla might actually be considering selling or spinning off its China business. Now, Elon Musk is responding directly, and his answer couldn't have been clearer. https://youtu.be/AXUOftLZw_A
A five-day Model Y trip paired Supercharger stops with puppy breaks and pet-friendly hotels. The car finished without reported trouble, while the shared map misplaced Incline Village and the claimed gas savings lacked a fair comparison. https://www.torquenews.com/17998/tesla-model-y-covered-2875-miles-puppy-and-444-charging-shared-map-put-lake-tahoe-pacific
Everyone assumes the highway is where trucks do the most damage. Tesla Semi's own post says otherwise, and it points straight at a two mile drive most of us never even think about. But the map in this story shows why Tesla Semi matters most to neighborhoods that most people don't even know about. Places like Southern California's poorest neighborhoods have the most at stake in the Tesla Semi rollout.

If you own a Tesla, the tire you assume is best for your range might actually be working against it. Consumer Reports just tested 7 Tesla tires and the safest, longest range winner was never built for an EV at all. Scout Motors just revealed a detail about its 500 mile range EV truck, which has a gasoline secret. It also shared new photos from its SC factory, and one small detail buried in the update explains an unexpected twist behind its 500 mile range truck. The gasoline part of the story is not what most people assume. BREAKING!! Elon Musk just made an announcement about Tesla and Starlink, which will make their merger inevitable. Read https://www.torquenews.com/1/elon-musk-all-cars-will-have-starlink-future-and-it-s-only-way
Elon Musk says you will be able to watch 4K videos in you cars with Tesla Starlinks. According to Musk, Tesla will eventually integrate a dedicated broadband Starlink antenna to all cars in the future.
"All cars will have Starlink in the future. It’s the only way to get super high bandwidth to billions of vehicles," Musk tweeted as a reply to a tweet by Aaron Burnett, found and CEO of Mach 33.

These are a lot of Tesla Cybercabs for test cars. So as others have mentioned in social media, I don’t think Tesla would ship all these Cybercabs in big numbers just to become test cars. On the other hand, maybe we need to see them testing in large numbers city wide in Vegas before the valve is completely open on the program! But in a safe way.

Bloomberg reporter Stefan Nicola says German carmakers are falling behind in China, and none of them seems to be able to halt the decline.
"Take Mercedes-Benz AG, for example. The automaker last fall partnered with fast-food chain McDonald’s to hype its brand in China. The ads were supposed to make its new electric CLA popular with China’s young and hip. It didn’t quite work, Nicola writes on Linkedin.
Mercedes sold only 1,153 electric CLAs in China in the first half of this year, a fraction of the more than 80,000 similarly priced SU7 sedans Xiaomi Technology delivered in the period. BMW Group, Volkswagen Group and Porsche AG face the same performance problem in China, where they all reported second-quarter sales declines of at least 30%.

The name says Ioniq. The car says something else entirely. The China-market Hyundai Ioniq V is not simply the Chinese version of the U.S.-market Ioniq 5. It is a substantially different vehicle, even though both use Hyundai’s E-GMP family of technology.

Don't confuse the V or the Ioniq V with 5. The Ioniq V is not trying to be an SUV.
