Lithuania’s Vilnius Airport is about to get a new arrivals terminal.

#zahahadidarchitects won the project’s design competition with its proposal for a structure referencing Lithuanian heritage that will help the airport serve up to 10.6M passengers each year.🚁

🪐The terminal’s #geometry originates from the rhombus, a shape holding significant #meaning in Baltic folklore, while its interiors nod to Lithuanian sodai straw gardens, a traditional art form.

💦Intricately crafted from stalks of grain, sodai are hanging #ornaments with triangular #geometric structures associated with well-being and celebration. The building’s pleated roof finished in timber from #local forests will also echo sodai’s triangular geometries.

Essential Architectural Glass Types! 🔍

Glass is vital in modern architecture. Here are the key types:

1️⃣ Float Glass: Basic, clear, flat glass – the foundation for many others.

2️⃣ Toughened Glass: Heat-treated safety glass that breaks into small, blunt pieces.

3️⃣ Laminated Glass: Multiple glass layers with a safety interlayer that holds pieces if broken.

4️⃣ Tinted Glass: Colored glass to reduce glare and heat gain.

5️⃣ Glass Blocks: Hollow units offering privacy and diffused light.

Also important:
🖱️Low-E Glass: Energy-efficient, reflects heat.
🖱️Insulated Glass Units (IGUs): Multi-pane for better insulation.🎮

Yuzhny Boulevard: A Story in Stone and Water

Yuzhny Boulevard in Dnipro, Ukraine (2018-2021) by Filimonov & Kashirina architects, transformed a city-center space into a vibrant pedestrian zone. This project #seamlessly extends an existing boulevard, weaving a storytelling narrative into its design.

⚙️The boulevard is cleverly divided into three longitudinal zones: transit paths along #buildings, and a diverse central area for recreation, quiet rest, and children's play. The most striking feature is #Ukraine's longest artificial creek, symbolizing the #underground Zhabokryach River, and becoming the dominant element of the pedestrian space.

⚡️This is a prime example of urban design that prioritizes both function and #narrative, creating a #unique and engaging public space.⚡️🎮
