Talk Forward 26.10.1
Braille keyboard
• The dots and the swipes no longer reverse at random. The half-turn detection in landscape watched the window's up-down axis, which says nothing when the phone is held sideways while the window stays portrait — the common case, since an app locked to portrait keeps the display upright whatever you do. It was reading tilt instead of posture, so a swipe to the right inserted a space one time and deleted a letter the next. The left-right axis is the one that carries the answer, and it is the one being read now.
• On opening, the keyboard says the posture it settled on: "landscape, charging port on the left", or on the right. Until now a wrong detection was indistinguishable from a misplaced finger — they feel the same.
• And a new setting, "Landscape direction", right under the layout, locks it: detect automatically, charging port on the left, or on the right. Locked, the accelerometer is not even started.
Explore by touch
• Explore by touch no longer vanishes after an unlock. The reader reclaimed touch ownership on every screen-on by switching it off and asking for it back, and never checked that it came back. When the system declined to re-grant it, our own flags claimed all was well, nothing re-checked, and only a restart cured it.
• It no longer vanishes after another screen reader is disabled, either. Touch ownership is now checked every ten seconds, by a question that costs one call and tears nothing down; the reclaim happens only when the answer is no. And if the screen is being used while no touch reaches us at all, a watchdog takes the interaction back on its own.
• On Xiaomi and Honor devices, no more "another screen reader is active" warning at startup. A manufacturer's service that talks without touching explore-by-touch is not competing with us, so it is no longer reported as a rival.
Quick settings
• A two-finger quadruple tap opens quick settings, as on iOS: the reader's own switches and behaviours, reachable without leaving what you were doing and without going hunting through menus. Around twenty rows, in alphabetical order: usage hints, vibration, earcons, the echo of both keyboards, capital letters, punctuation and repeated-symbol counting, speech while a microphone is open, caller announcement, emoji names, the time on wake and the regular time announcement, scroll verbosity, the edge-gesture, scrub and launcher-mode announcements, the dictation engine and the braille table for typing.
• Every row says where that setting currently stands, so the panel reads as a report of how the reader is set. A swipe up or down, or a double tap, moves the row on to its next value, says it, and the panel stays open. Nothing to confirm: it is written at once, exactly as from the settings.
• Two rows only offer what is actually available. The dictation engine offers Parakeet only once its model is downloaded, and the smart engine only with a Gemini key or the subscription — offering a setting that cannot work is worse than not offering it. And the braille row cycles only the codes you chose in the braille language settings, in the same order the keyboard uses.
• And the panel is yours to compose: a new "Quick settings" screen, in the settings beside "Verbosity", lists every available row with a switch each. Everything is offered to begin with; turn off what you do not want there and the panel shrinks to what you actually use. Twenty-odd rows are quick for someone who wants them all and a long walk for someone who wants four, and only you can say which you are.
Gestures
• Many more assignable gestures, none of them bound by default: triple-tap with one finger, quadruple-tap with two, three and four fingers, triple-tap and hold with one finger, tap and hold and triple-tap and hold with four fingers. Android provides none of these; the reader detects them itself.

• Triple-tap with one finger is bound to long press by default. Worth knowing: while it is bound to anything, the double tap waits out the multi-tap timeout before acting, since that wait is the only way to know a third tap is not coming. Unassign it and activation is instant again.
Speech
• Three choices for speech while a microphone is open, in place of the switch: always stay silent, never stay silent, or speak while you are navigating and fall silent a few seconds after you stop. The middle one is what a live voice assistant needs: your swipes speak, while a notification arriving stays out of the recording. Your own dictation silences the reader whatever is chosen.
• An assignable action suspends and restores that silence on the spot, without a trip through settings and without changing your choice for good.
• Three new verbosity switches, all on by default: announce what an edge gesture does, announce what the scrub does, announce launcher mode. Off, the vibration remains.
• Launcher mode no longer arms in silence, and now also confirms being cancelled by the Back gesture, and a gesture with no app bound to it. With earcons off, those two reached nobody.
Talk Forward keyboards
• The reader has on-screen keyboards of its own, letters and braille, made for typing without sight: a key is found by sliding rather than by aiming, and nothing is committed until the finger lifts. Plenty of people never learn they exist, so the reader now says it once, the first time a keyboard that is not its own appears — naming the gesture that actually reaches them: the one you bound yourself, or, for braille, the built-in one, spreading two fingers and double-tapping. Once, never repeated, and never said to someone who has already opened them.
Reading new content
• A gesture can read new items in a list as they arrive, so a live stream's comments can be followed without going hunting for each one. It watches the list your focus is in, never interrupts, keeps the newest when they arrive faster than they can be spoken, and stops on its own if the rate becomes impossible or you leave the app. Asked for by two users.
Visual agent
• When an app forbids capturing its screen, the visual agent says so instead of answering that the screen is empty. It was sending the blank image to the server, spending a request, and reporting a sentence that blamed the screen when the app was the one blocking — which happens on many payment screens.
Diagnostics
• Logs attached to a bug report finally contain the reader's own state. The filter allowed a tag that matched nothing, so no state information ever reached them; the capture is now taken by process, which cannot miss what we write

What’s New in IBM Eloquence: The Speed & Clarity Update
We’ve completely revolutionized the delivery pipeline powering your favorite voice. While the classic Eloquence sound remains 100% authentic and untouched, the underlying execution has been re-engineered for absolute maximum performance on modern Android devices.
In rigorous physical hardware testing, IBM Eloquence beats official Code Factory Eloquence benchmarks by an exceptional margin.
Here are the certified performance metrics behind your new screen reader experience:
🚀 Over 90% Faster Touch-to-Speech Response
Standard pipelines trap audio behind deep system queues, introducing noticeable hesitation. We have completely eliminated this delay. Audio hits your device's speaker in just 4.0 milliseconds—delivering an instantaneous response that outperforms official Code Factory Eloquence by an exceptional margin.
⚡ 22% Faster High-Frequency Navigation
Power users demand speed. In continuous stress testing under high-frequency navigation demands, IBM Eloquence processed interruptions 22% faster than official Code Factory Eloquence. With an ultra-responsive turnaround time of just 0.67 milliseconds to drop an utterance and speak the next, you can glide through complex menus without a single stutter or hesitation.
🎧 Flawless, Zero-Jitter Audio Delivery
Say goodbye to random audio cracks, micro-stutters, and clicks. Our upgraded architecture ensures a continuous, crystal-clear audio stream, running completely free of dropouts even during peak background workloads.
🔋 Primed Hardware Wake-Up (No Clipped Syllables)
Legacy setups let phone speakers enter a deep sleep between actions, causing the first syllable of the next item to be clipped or muted. Our intelligent idle management keeps the audio hardware primed and ready during active navigation, guaranteeing crisp, complete words from the very first letter.
🛡️ Bulletproof System Stability
Your screen reader is your lifeline. We have engineered intelligent, real-time fail-safe mechanisms directly into the engine. In the rare event of an unexpected processing hiccup, the system recovers instantaneously, ensuring you are never stranded in silence.
Don't just take our word for it—test it yourself.
We believe benchmark numbers should speak through everyday use. Update the app, turn on your screen reader, and navigate through your heaviest interfaces at top speed. Experience firsthand how IBM Eloquence outperforms official Code Factory Eloquence to set a new standard in responsive navigation.
Stay tuned for ongoing improvements. Keep reporting any quirks or edge cases you encounter so we can hunt them down and crush them immediately—the more testers pushing the limits, the more rock-solid and unbreakable this engine becomes for everyone.
