Gender stereotype

Definition
- A gender stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified belief or idea about the characteristics, roles, and behaviours that are appropriate for men and women based on their gender.

Kerala's Examples:
-Class V Social Science textbook features a father making fish curry, breaking traditional gender norms.
-Gender parity references included in textbooks for Classes I, III, V, VII, and IX.
-A Class III English textbook depicts a father preparing food and performing household chores.


Addressing Gender Stereotypes:
-Education: Promote gender-sensitive curricula and teaching practices.
-Awareness: Increase awareness about the negative impacts of stereotypes.
-Representation: Ensure diverse and accurate representation of genders in media and leadership roles.
-Policy: Implement policies that promote gender equality in workplaces and educational institutions.

World Heritage Committee : Committee of UNESCO.

- Location: Paris, France.

- Establishment: Created by the World Heritage Convention in 1972.

- Mission: To identify, protect, and preserve cultural and natural heritage worldwide.

Functions:

- Listing World Heritage Sites: Evaluates and decides on the inclusion of sites on the World Heritage List.
- Monitoring Conservation: Reviews the state of conservation of listed sites and takes actions to protect them.
- Technical Assistance and Training: Provides support and training to countries for heritage conservation.
- Emergency Assistance: Offers aid for sites in immediate danger.

- Composition: 21 member states elected by the General Assembly of States Parties.

🔹Characteristics:
- Non-photosynthetic Production: Unlike traditional oxygen production, dark oxygen is not produced through photosynthesis.

International Tiger Day 2024

● International Tiger Day is observed globally on July 29 every year.

● International Tiger Day, was first established in 2010 during the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit by nations that are home to tigers.

● 13 tiger range countries came together to create Tx2 – the global goal to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022.

Protection Status of Tiger:
- Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972: Schedule I
- IUCN Red List: Endangered.
- CITES: Appendix I.

Tiger Reserves in India
- India has 3682 tigers, home to 75 per cent of global numbers
- Total Number of TR's: 54
- Largest: Nagarjunsagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve, Andhra Pradesh
- Smallest: Bor tiger reserve in Maharashtra
- Latest to list: Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve in the state of Rajasthan.

Defence Acquisition Council (DAC)

Type: Highest decision-making body in the Ministry of Defence for procurement.

- Field Trials: Oversees field trial evaluations.
