Limitation Law

-The Limitation law was meant to check the accumulation of interest by moneylenders over time.

-The revenue settlements implemented by the British in the Deccan region led to exploitation of the ryots by the moneylenders.

-The ryots came to see the moneylender as devious and deceitful. They complained of moneylenders manipulating laws and forging accounts.

-In 1859 the British passed a Limitation Law that stated that the loan bonds signed between moneylenders and ryots would have validity for only three years.

Ask You Doubts
What are Ultraviolet(UV) Light?

● Ultraviolet(UV) is a type of light or radiation naturally emitted by the Sun. It covers a wavelength range of 100-400 nm.

● The shorter the wavelength, the more harmful the UV radiation. However, shorter wavelength UV radiation is less able to penetrate the skin.

Types of UV light: There are three types of UV radiation that are classified according to their wavelength:

UV-A (315-400 nm): It has a long wavelength, which accounts for approximately 95% of the UV radiation reaching the Earth’s surface. It can penetrate the middle layer of your skin or the dermis and can cause aging of skin cells and indirect damage to cells’ DNA.

UV-B (280-315 nm): It has a medium wavelength. It is biologically active but cannot penetrate beyond the outer skin layers. It can cause sunburn and is also associated with skin cancer. Most solar UVB is filtered by the atmosphere.

UV-C (100-280 nm): It has a short wavelength and is most harmful. However, it is completely filtered by the ozone layer and does not reach the Earth’s surface. But the UV-C radiation from man-made sources has been known to cause skin burns and eye injuries.

What is Xenotransplantation?

● Xenotransplantation involves the transplantation of nonhuman tissues or organs into human recipients.

● The dream of animal-to-human transplants goes back to the 17th century when attempts were made to use animal blood for transfusions.

● By the 20th century, surgeons were attempting transplants of organs from baboons into humans.

● In the early 1960s, a surgeon performed 13 chimpanzees-to-human kidney transplants. One of the recipients lived for 90 days. However, most of these transplants failed and were gradually given up.

● But recently, a genetically modified pig’s heart was successfully transplanted into a 57-year-old man dying of heart failure in a New York hospital. This is the first successful transplant of a pig’s heart into a human being.
