SAARC
• The World Bank calls South Asia the least integrated region.
• Intra-regional trade is around 5% of South Asia’s total trade. Comparitively the figure for East Asia (ASEAN) is 35% and Europe (EU) is 60%.
•19th summit has been postponed,,however, only 18 summits in more than three decades of
existence shows SAARC has been unable to meet regularly.
•SAARC has failed to evolve a common strategic outlook to deal with challenges such as terrorism or climate change.

Operation Thirst
The ‘Railway Protection Force’(RPF), Ministry of Railways launched “Operation Thirst”.
It is an all India Drive to crack down selling of unauthorised Packaged Drinking Water.
Almost all major stations over Indian Railway were covered during this operation.
The bottles of unauthorised Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) have been seized under section 144 and section 153 of Indian Railway Act.

What is Employment Elasticity? How low Employment Elasticity in India results in Jobless Growth?
Employment elasticity is a measure of how employment varies with economic output. An employment elasticity of 1 implies that with every 1 percentage point growth in GDP, employment increases by 1%.
It is an irony that a few years back, when India was on high growth trajectory, its growth was jobless growth. Jobless growth means that the high growth in GDP did not accompany a similar growth in employment, resulting in a low Employment Elasticity.
