🔥Diel Vertical Migration (DVM)

🔺Definition: DVM is a synchronized movement where deep-sea marine animals, especially tiny free-floating zooplanktons, swim up to the surface at night.

🔺Purpose: It serves as a survival strategy for these creatures, balancing the need for food and avoiding predators.
Mechanism

🔺Movement:
-Organisms rise from the mesopelagic layer (200-1,000 m deep) to the epipelagic layer at night.

-Safety in Darkness: The darkness at the surface provides safety, allowing them to feed on microscopic phytoplankton while avoiding daytime predators.

-Largest Migration: This migration, tuned to sunrise and sunset, is the largest on the planet by biomass and occurs daily in all oceans.

-Carbon Removal: Sea animals eat surface plankton, removing ocean carbon.

-Carbon Transfer: They take this carbon deep underwater.

-Carbon Sink: Their waste forms a long-lasting ocean floor carbon trap, aiding climate regulation.

'Green Nobel' Prize or United Earth Amazonia Prize

-Founder: Marcus Nobel, a Swedish-American businessman based in Portland, Oregon, has instituted this annual environmental prize.
