Gout 🆚 Hyperuricemia?
🔷 Gout:
🎯 Is a form of arthritis characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness in the joints, often starting with the big toe.
💥 It occurs when urate crystals accumulate in the joints, leading to inflammation and intense pain.
🍔 Gout attacks:
can be triggered by factors such as diet (high purine foods), alcohol consumption, obesity, certain medications, and genetics.
⚖️ Treatment:
Usually involves medications to reduce pain and inflammation during attacks (e.g., NSAIDs, colchicine), as well as long-term management to lower uric acid levels (e.g., allopurinol, probenecid).
🟢 Hyperuricemia:
📈 Is a condition characterized by high levels of uric acid in the blood.
🚨 It may or may not cause symptoms, but when levels are persistently high, it can increase the risk of developing gout and kidney stones.
🧬 Causes:
Include genetics, diet (high-purine foods), obesity, certain medications (e.g., diuretics, aspirin), and underlying medical conditions (e.g., kidney disease, metabolic syndrome).
🛡️ Management:
Focuses on lifestyle changes (dietary modifications, weight loss), avoiding triggers, and sometimes medications to lower uric acid levels and prevent complications.
