Trade between India and Malaysia can now be settled in Indian rupee in addition to existing modes of settlement in other currencies, the Reserve Bank of India said in a statement.

This initiative is aimed at facilitating the growth of global trade and supporting the interests of the global trading community in Indian rupee, the country's central bank said.

India International Bank of Malaysia, based in Kuala Lumpur, activated the mechanism by opening a Special Rupee Vostro Account through its Corresponding Bank in India.
