There is no such thing as getting second place. It is either, the winner, or the loser. Humans worship the former, and reject latter Polarizing and extreme facets like it reveal that laws of nature were not written in our favor. Either you can have outrage over this, or you can bend it to your will. Your choice.

No, I don't. meditation, in my opinion, is a chase of an experience. Most meditational practices don't lead anywhere. You experience temporary peace at best, so what? The truth lies in "meditativeness".
How to find the motivation to do something.

Requested by followers:

I lean heavily towards psychoanalytic theory & Nitzschean philosophy.

That means with regards to this thread,

I believe not everyone has the ability to be motivated. And those that do, have multiple personalities constantly affecting their motivation.

I'll address accordingly.

Nietzsche believed not everyone can achieve an aim,

that they lack self-determination; which is a combination of self-control & self-legislation i.e

the ability to write laws in place that will help attain an aim while suppressing desires that directly/indirectly disrupt it.

This thread assumes you have the ability to set yourself an aim that generates enough motivation for you to pursue it.

Obviously the "how" of this thread will fail those who don't possess this quality.

Some will disagree & claim everyone possesses it.

And yet still fail.

Having the motivation to do something cannot be pinpointed or quantified. There's infinite amount of reasons on what compels people to do things.

But there is room to work and generate motivation for those who have none,

(assuming they possess the trait in temperament).

You need two ingredients to be motivated enough to achieve something:

1st - a source that generates motivation.

2nd - to protect the motivation’s longevity.

The 1st is achieved with self-contempt.

The 2nd is achieved through self-control.

To be motivated means to act in a particular way that would IDEALLY achieve something as a consequence of such repetitive behaviour.

This means there needs to be a reason for someone to behave in such particular way.

That reason is purpose or an objective.

Finding a purpose is easy:

A. Take stock of your current state of conditions.

B. Fantasise an ideal state of condition (doesn't matter if short-term).

Then make decisions that help you move from A to B.

Once achieved, set another purpose, this time with a longer timeframe.

The difficulty is in ACHIEVING the purpose.

One way is to live in contempt or oppression - it develops intensity to escape.

For eg: People who say 'don't work in a job you hate' dont consider the fact that the job you hate could well be the catalyst in achieving your purpose.

Its also possible to artificially generate a situation of "living in contempt" if you exeggerate your IDEAL situation.

Meaning: set an aim so high, that it makes your current situation suffer drastically in comparison,

WITHOUT obscuring the reality of achieving it.

This is why people in touch with their dark side such as jealousy or greed, have the ability to generate the motivation to succeed a purpose or objective.

Dark/negative emotions when concentrated into a desire to achieve, is an unmatched source of motivation.

Once you have enough contempt of your current situation, it should then generate motivation to achieve an ideal condition.

If it doesn't, then what you have doesn't suffer enough compared to what you want,

OR

you're the type that lacks the self-determination capacity.

Assuming you have now a source of motivation (self-contempt) to achieve a specific aim/purpose;

you then have to protect that motivation from your multiple personalities, all which come with their own set of urges & aims that directly conflict with yours.

A man who has found his purpose and generated enough motivation, can NEVER attain said purpose,

if his lust constantly aims to attain sexual pleasures by putting him in places that seek out women.

This is the essence of shadow integration, keeping your other selves in check.

So motivation needs;

Self-contempt as a source to self-legislate laws in place to achieve a purpose that alleviates that contempt,

AND

protection through self-control, which is the integration of your other disruptive 'selves' through shadow work.

For those who have accepted they are not the self-determined type,

aim for daily objectives.

Do 1-2 things today for the purpose of making your tomorrow better.

When you get good at this, increase the timeframe. Aim for a week, a month & so on.

UNDERSTANDING COMMUNISM

INTRODUCTION

Communism is a term that gets thrown around way too often on people or ideas that a person disagrees with. This would indicate that Communism is something Evil.

But is that the truth? Lets figure it out with this post!

IDEOLOGY OF COMMUNISM

The core principle of communism can be understood by a Slogan Karl Marx popularized in 1875-

“From each according to his ability,
To each according to his needs.”

Communism is an ideology which suggests that the ownership of an organization should belong to the people who contribute towards it the most. That is the workers of a factory, the laborers of a field, the teachers of a school, etc.

Karl Marx believed that in an institution, those at the top (factory owners) were extremely exploitative towards those at the bottom (workers) and wanted to create a society where there were no differences among people.

This Utopian vision of a truly classless society would be called a Communist State.

Karl Marx theorized that in a true communist state, there won’t be any discrimination, no classes, no races, no private ownership.

Along with this, such a state would NOT allow inheritance of wealth, would provide free education and free healthcare to its citizens.

Sounds too good to be true isn’t it? A Truly Communist State was a theoretical utopia, not a practical one.

We will see why that is the case later in this post.

ORIGIN OF COMMUNISM

It is often thought that the concept of Communism first came into being after Karl Marx wrote ‘The Communist Manifesto’ in 1848. While this is true to an extent, since The Manifesto was the first solidified work around communism, but forms of modern communism have been observed all throughout history.

Even Plato had the idea of Classless, Egalitarian society.

Plato’s communism was based on the theory that property, family instincts and private interests would distract man’s attention from his obligations to the community.

It wouldn’t be very wrong to suggest Plato was the first communist theorist. This was about the people who theorized communism. What if I say,

Communism of some sort has always existed in human society!

When Humans were still hunters and gatherers, men would hunt together, bring back the dead animals to their small community, eat together, share resources together. No one ‘owned’ anything, everything was community owned. Those who hunted the best, or the worst, got the same food.

Now look back at the ideology of communism - “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”

See the alignment?

HISTORY OF COMMUNISM

The first major implementation of Communism was observed during early 1900s Russia, where the working class were heavily exploited by the factory owners with hostile working conditions. People complied due to lack of options.

During this period, Russia was ruled by Tsar Nicholas II.

The human rights of workers were acknowledged by Vladimir Lenin, the Founder of the Russian Communist Party. He realized that these working conditions can be improved only when the Tsar gets dethroned.

In 1917, Lenin led a mass movement with the workers and Bolsheviks that overthrew Tsar Nicholas II from power.

This was the founding stone of Soviet Russia. Lenin served as the head of Government of Soviet Russia from 1917.

Lenin brought many changes to Russian bureaucracy. He improved worker’s conditions, banned all political parties to avoid criticism, punished the critics,

But perhaps the most important change-

Lenin Nationalized the factories of Soviet Russia.

This is where Lenin’s form of Communism diverged from Marxist Communism. Because Marxist Communism would’ve given the control of factories to Workers, not the government. Lenin’s Communism is also known as Leninism.

But then, in 1924, Lenin died after going into a coma. Although there are tons of conspiracy surrounding Lenin’s death, that is a topic for another time.

(1/4)
(2/4)

After Lenin’s death, the power was passed on to his successor, Joseph Stalin, who had his own version of Communism, it would be called…. you guessed it, Stalinism.

Stalin’s interpretation of communism was far from what Marx had proposed. Stalin’s priority was set: to maximize factory output.

Due to this, he restored hostile working conditions which were even worse than they were under Tsar. He completely federalized most of the Soviet Industries.

Stalin was a textbook dictator and people starved under his rule.

He interpreted communism to be equality of outcome. While Lenin/Marxist communism emphasized on equality of opportunity.

Example-

Leninism/Marxism- A man will have a choice to work in a factory or be a doctor based on his will, because everyone is equal.

Stalinism- A factory worker and a doctor will be paid the same because everyone is equal.

Stalin’s focus on making old production methods more efficient, led to little to no innovation, which was parallelly taking place in Eastern Europe.

Communism, or atleast forms of it, were also observed in China. Mao Zedong’s interpretation of Communism led to a very violent society in China.

Mao had a quote-

“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns”

This pretty much sums up his reign.

CONCLUSIONS FROM HISTORY

When everyone in a society is equal, there is a void created at the top, which is filled by a tyrant. Every mass implementation of Communism ends up with a dictator who makes conditions more hostile than ever.

But this doesn’t mean we should reject the ideology of communism completely. Some forms of Communism still exist, and are making the world a better place.

Example:
-Free healthcare & Education were originally Communist ideas.
-The existence of worker’s rights and labor laws today are due to Communist movements.

Marx wanted to create a truly classless society. And most of the liberal movements today have the apparent objective to achieve that (Truth is far from it)

All this shows that even though all previous Communist states have collapsed, the world still has drawn inspiration from original Marxist ideas to improve the society.

WHY DID COMMUNISM FAIL

This is a very complicated question to answer, but we’ll try to form a logic.

Let’s go back to the core ideology of Communism again:
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."

This means that a person who is able to earn in surplus will need to provide money for those who aren't able to. For a society like ours, this creates a cycle of ill-incentives.

Knowing that even if you don’t work hard, yet you’ll survive because someone else is working hard, makes people reluctant to put in as much effort as they possibly could.

Example:
Under Stalinism, it doesn’t matter if you’re a factory worker or a doctor, you’d be paid the same. So there’s no incentive for someone to work hard, and everyone naturally ends up with low-demanding professions.

This disrupts the system.

It is also important to address the fact that NO NATION has ever achieved the ideals of Communism completely.

One might say Soviet Russia was and China is a communist state.

The truth is, both of them were an interpretation of Communism, like Stalinism and Maoism. China today is communist only in its name.

In reality it is an authoritarian regime led by the CCP. They share no ideals with Marxist Communism.

PROBLEMS WITH COMMUNISM

The root structural flaw with communism lies in its misunderstanding of human nature itself.

Here are the core issues plaguing communism:

1) Some people would Always Need More!

-Any human being has no upper bound to his needs. To imply that the state can even measure the needs of a person is the pathology that plagues communism wherever it was implemented.

-Some people can produce disproportionate amounts of value while being invested in, while others may fare poorly.
(3/4)

Communism requires people to not compete for resources and be satisfied with what the state gives them.

-This is the best grounds for any one individual to rise up the ranks and acquire every resource leaving others with nothing.

-Instead it's much more sensible to allow everyone to compete for resources, although it may result in inequitable distribution.

2) The Selfish Nature of Humans won't allow for Equitable Distribution of Resources.

-Any person, party or community that has the power to distribute the resources evenly to the masses will be too selfish to share them as per their needs.

-In most cases this makes the environment perfect for mass scale corruption and greediness, which often leaves the working class common man penniless.

-If you were entrusted with sharing a nation's resources are you going to sweat trying to share them equally or will you try to keep the lion's share for yourself?

-This explains why every communist power is always accompanied by a tyrant at the top.

-The selfish nature of human beings is swept under the rugs by the preachers of communism while promoting a constant air of equality and progress.

-For this reason, an actual implementation of communism can NEVER occur in the first place, because human nature won't allow it.

3) Misunderstands the Nature of Economy & Free Markets.

-A centrally planned economy can never exist. A country's economy is massive & unpredictable. A government cannot possibly measure all aspects of the demands of people and supply that adequately.

-Controlling such a massive entity is not simply sustainable.

-That's a job best left to the free markets.

4) Hinders Innovation and Disruptive Progress.

The final point of problems with communism is that it disincentives innovation.

Innovation happens exclusively inside the mind of an individual who gathers a group of people who work in accordance with his vision. Under communism, the community or workers are in charge of the means of production entirely.

So a group of people cannot ever synchronize with achieving a disruptive technology.

For example,
Will Apple iPhone ever reach the quality it has, if the workers were in charge of it's producing it instead of Steve Jobs?
Will Tesla & SpaceX be successful as they are today if not for the vision of Elon Musk?

The answer is easily no.

Organic hierarchy are required for quick action and mass production. A decison from the community results in unnecessary bureaucracy & dealys.

SOLUTIONS

(This section requires reader's discretion. The opinions are purely personal.)

Communism looks good on paper despite obvious flaws. Proponents of this ideology often portray the ideals of communism with a sense of moral superiority and ideological attachment. This makes it almost impossible to logically convince them of it's pathologies unless one has experienced them first hand.

Nevertheless let's explore the ideal situations in which communism can work, or any slight modifications we can do, to make it work-

First, is to change human nature. Make humans less selfish by making sure an overabundance of resources exists way above any threshold for actual needs. Else enhance their spiritual capacity to be Selfless.

All of these are rather unrealistic solutions.

If you are already in a 'communist state' then urge leaders to selectively resort to capitalism in a controlled fasion. (Eg: China)

Most of the economic prosperity in China is a direct implementation of capitalism experiments in selected places.

Then allow capitalism to run it's course. This can result in the maximum economic prosperity as much as possible. Capitalism allows people to be many people to be selfish while stressing heavily on results by providing value to others.

There will still be oppression and exploitation under capitalism as marx observed, but at a much lesser degree than Communism. Modern USA has benefited the most from this Capitalism.
(4/4)

No ideology is permanent and independent of flaws.

Late stage capitalism is mostly about using the acquires power to rig the system & "free markets" in their favor.
The selfish nature of human beings catches up.

Which now transitions to social Democracy or democratic socialism. It goes the full circle back to a much more evolved version of socialism.

Modern day Scandinavian countries like Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway are some examples of Social Democracy.

They allow private property and free markets to bolster innovation, while emphasis on workers rights and democratic representation of their concerns and such.

It is the best form of governance till we have now.

CLOSING STATEMENT

Communism, just like any other political ideology is full of pros and cons. Despite the bad light, some parts of the original communist ideas serve us well and have improved many lives.

Parallelly, it is important to acknowledge the fact that communism has led to death of millions. Directly or indirectly. Be it the death of Communism-critics by Stalin or death of Communists by Hitler, in the grand scheme of things, humans have suffered.

You are now equipped with better-than-most understanding of Communism.
