The M.Sc. Zoology students performed an experiment to determine the oxygen content in pond water. They used alkaline potassium iodide and manganese sulfate (MnSO₄), which produced a clear precipitate. Sulfuric acid was then added to dissolve the precipitate, resulting in a yellow color. They added starch solution and methyl orange as indicators, then titrated the sample with N/40 sodium thiosulfate and noted the point of used volume of sodium thiosulfate. By repeating this process three to four times, they calculated the average and determined the ppm (part per million) to accurately assess the oxygen content in the pond water.

B.Sc. 3rd-semester #Microbiology #students recently performed an #experiment to test sugar levels in unknown samples using #Benedict’s #reagent. They added 5 to 10 ml of reagent to each sample, gently heated and shook them, and observed color changes to indicate sugar content: Sample A stayed blue (no sugar), Sample B turned green (low sugar), Sample C turned yellow (moderate sugar), and Sample D turned brick red (high sugar). This hands-on experiment provided valuable insights into #biochemical testing through visible color changes.
