🎎STUDY KOREAN LANGUAGE🎓

-는 바람에 "because/as a result of"

this structure is usually used when you want to express a reason or a cause of something that happened unexpectedly or against your hope.

The conjugation rule is simple. You just need to attach 는 바람에 directly to the verb stem. Note that there is one exception. When the verb stem ends in ㄹ, you need to drop the ㄹ and then attach 는 바람에 to the remaining of the verb stem.

늦다 neujda (to be late) > 늦는 바람에
졸다 jolda (to doze off) > 조는 바람에

Notes:
1) The result or consequence in the following clause should be negative
Otherwise, it will sound unnatural. However, in some cases, this form can be used to describe positive situations, but they are limited to cases in which something completely unexpected or unintended has occurred.

2) Tense marker is at the end.
❌ 어제 늦게 잤는 바람에 아침에 늦게 일어났다
I woke up late in the morning because I slept late yesterday.
✔️ 어제 늦게 자는 바람에 아침에 늦게 일어났다.
I slept late yesterday so i woke up late in the morning.

3) Only past tense cam be used. Using this pattern, you can only describe events that occurred in the past. Because of this, you cannot use propositive or imperative forms with this pattern either.
❌ 무릎을 다치는 바람에 병워에 갈거에요.
I'm going to the hospital because of a knee injury.

Examples:

술을 너무 마시는 바람에 토했어요.
suleul neomu mashineun barame tohaesseoyo.
i threw up as because of drinking too much.

비가 오는 바람에 바다에 못 갔어요.
biga oneun barame bada-e mot gatseoyo.
because of raining, we couldn't go to the beach.

-느라고 "because of that"

Used when you are unable to do someth8ng because you were either interrupted or because you had been do something else. Basically, the statement given in the preceding clause is the reason for or cause of the following clause. Also note that this grammar point is a little negative in nature.

-can be shortened to ~느라
- action in the first clause continued partially or completely with that of second
-Don't : use positive clauses afterward -it sounds unnatural :
❌ 열심히 공부하느라고 시험을 잘 봤어요.
yeolshimi gongbuha-neurago shiheomeul jal bwasseoyo.
I did well on the exam while studying hard.
Use idiomatically with 수고하다 (keep the good work), 고생하다 (goodwork) :
✔️ 숙제를 다 하느라고 수고했어요.
sukjeureul da haneurago sugohaesseoyo.
I worked hard to do my homework.
- ONLY use verbs that show the (1) will of the subject, (2) force of energy, (3) time
- subject stays the same in both clauses.

Example:

뭐 하느라고 이렇게 늦었어요?
mwo haneurago ireohke neujeosseoyo?
what are you doing to be so late?

시간엠 맞추어서 오느라고 혼났어요.
shigane majchu-eoseo oneurago honnasseoyo.
Coming on time was a real pain.
