๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง The surprise agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia signed on March 10 may hold the key political reconciliation in Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia has traditionally supported the Lebanese Sunni politicians, such as the late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and his son PM Saad Hariri. However, Saad Hariri resigned himself from political life.

With Saudi Arabia supporting Sunni politicians and Iran backing the Shiite group Hezbollah, the long-standing rivalry between the two has shaped the political scene in Lebanon.

The newly found reconciliation between Riyadh and Tehran may set the stage in Lebanon for compromise ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿฆ… Lebanonโ€™s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdallah Bou Habib, shocked the UN on August 25 in New York by rejecting the proposal that is being forced upon Lebanon by the United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

In a surprise act of national defiance, and rejection at being dictated to by Washington, Bou Habib would not acquiesce to moving to Chapter VII. Chapter VI calls for โ€œthe peaceful resolution of conflicts,โ€ while Chapter VII โ€œcalls for the imposition of Resolution 1701 by force.โ€

At question is the yearly renewal of a UN mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), set to expire August 31, which had been voluntary and mutually agreed upon by Lebanon and the UN. But the UN, primarily under the command of the U.S., has decided if Lebanon will not agree to the terms of the mandate, it will be forced upon them.

Will the U.S. allow the Lebanese to save their economy while using their own resources? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Might the present turmoil in Palestine, simply and quietly, be put to rest under White House management?

To view the Israeli-Hamas war as a local event would be another error of โ€˜old thinkโ€™. This has become a war for Palestinian existence โ€“ between the Hebraic vision of Israel, and the Islamic vision of its own civilisational Renaissance. In this second vision, the Palestinian wound constitutes a lacuna that has festered for 75 years, as a result of western map-management.

This Palestinian question will not now fade away โ€“ nor be resolved by restoring the discredited Palestinian Authority, nor vague โ€˜talksโ€™ about some โ€˜one-dayโ€™ Palestinian State.

We must re-configure our thinking โ€“ onto the longer plane โ€“ to take account of the intrusion of shifting dimensions in consciousness.
